I was given this beverage warmer as a gift after asking for one for my birthday. My first impression was that it looks nice quite nice and appears to have decent construction. The button that switches from low/high/off clicks satisfyingly and feels sturdy. For my first use, I turned it on high and placed my luke-warm, half-filled mug (standard mug like in the photo) of coffee on it. Returning to it 10-15 minutes later, I expected to have a re-heated mug of coffee (beverage WARMER right?) waiting for me, but instead found myself taking another luke-warm sip. I was initially disappointed and thought I had a junk product, however after using it for the last week, I've found that it works... sort of. First, if you place a freshly poured, piping hot mug of drink on it, the warmer keeps it reasonably warm. I've found that if I start with a full cup of hot coffee, I can enjoy it hot for 30-45 minutes of sipping, which is enough time for me to enjoy the cup rather than rushing through it. The mug is actually kept hot for this amount of time. Second, using a mug with a wider base makes a difference because more surface area is heated. Note: most mugs have a rim around the bottom so that the majority of the bottom does not touch the surface on which it's placed. I'm sure that if you can find a mug that has a truly flat bottom, this warmer would be MUCH more effective... I'm trying to find a mug like this since I don't have one.
All in all, this product does serve it's purpose to an extent, and it does allow me to enjoy my HOT coffee for longer than I normally would, which would be less than 10 minutes before I run to the microwave. However, with the mugs that I use, it does not effectively "warm" anything; rather, it allows the coffee to more slowly cool down (hence, my title). While I will continue to use this because I have it, I'm not sure I would recommend this product to anyone, since there are cheaper warmers on Amazon with much better reviews.
