If you have kids, this would be a neat activity to get them away from the TV or video games. As an adult who just wants some root beer, it's kind of a hassle. THE GOOD: It makes great root beer. The fermented carbonation could be described as "tinier bubbles than regular carbonation"--it's refreshing. It makes a great gift for someone who likes root beer...the best gift is to make a batch and give it to them chilled so they can enjoy it immediately. THE BAD: Having to sanitize everything is a pain. It's scary to see how much sugar you have to add. How do you get that root beer flavor? Squirt some of the root beer flavoring in. Which leaves you still scratching your head as to how you would REALLY make root beer. What is root beer flavoring made from? THE UGLY: Treat the root beer flavoring as though it is India ink. It will stain the heck out of anything it touches. BOTTOM LINE: Great root beer if you don't mind working to get it.
