Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Mr. Coffee TM3 Iced Tea MakerCustomer Review: Can't live wihtout it! Summary: 4 Stars
I am a good Southern girl whose family cannot live without sweet iced tea. The problem was I could never get the knack of stove-top brewing. We have owned Mr Coffee Tea Makers for about 12 years. I think our second one just died. We make AT LEAST 3 quarts a day, and more during the summer. Once you decide how you like your tea (brew strength, number of tea bags, amount of sugar), this product will produce perfect results every time. I would agree with the others that the pitcher is the weakest part and that is the only reason this product only got 4 stars from me. Only hand-washing will greatly increase the pitcher life. We never could figure out how to stop the dribbling spout. As soon as one dies, we run out and buy another that same day! However, that does not happen very often (every 6 years or so). For our third replacement, we bought the Mr Coffee model TM39P. They have redesigned the pitcher so that it no longer dribbles and the handle is more comfortale to hold. The pitcher is also shorter which means it fits on refridgerator shelves easier. I would give the TM39P 5 stars. Look for it.
Customer Review: Almost Perfect... Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this product as a replacement for the 2-Quart Iced Tea Maker from the same manufacturer. I'm a bit disappointed with this version for a few reasons. One, instead of pouring the desired amount of liquid into a closed off section (the 2-quart version had slats over the section), it's poured into a very open and very spillable section. Two, the steeping basket is not on top of the pitcher, which requires the brownish-orangeish liquid to pour into the pitcher through the spout, causing the side of the pitcher to stain. Three, there is an adjustment on the steeper which keeps a lot of excess liquid inside after the process is finished, so taking the basket off creates a very big mess! Four, the lid of the pitcher has a flap to it and frequently closes when trying to pour one-handed. That's the only problems I have with it. They aren't even major problems, just minor annoyances. I guess the 2-quart version got me spoiled, that was perfect for me. But I drink WAY too much tea for the 2-quart to suffice. It really is a great product, much better than boiling on the stove! Hope this helps someone.
Customer Review: Tea with Ease Summary: 5 Stars
I had the 2-quart model for at least six years, then bought the "other" (triangular) Mr. Coffee 3-qt. model. Do NOT buy the other 3-quart model. I threw it away and bought this one, and I'm extremely happy with it. The spout is drip-proof (not with the other model, where the tea gushes out all over the place when you try to pour while there is still ice present in the pitcher); the component parts fit better together (with the other model, if they are not "just right", you'll have your ice tea all over your counter and dripping down your cabinets instead of into the pitcher); It makes ice tea faster than the other model, and it tastes perfect. In fact, I get a lot of compliments for my ice tea (using Tetley British Blend tea bags), which I make without sugar. That's because I have diabetic friends who want Splenda, and a couple who prefer it unsweetened with just a slice of lemon. One insists on honey. I like it plain with no sweetener. No matter, you will always get a perfect glass of ice tea with the TM3-2.
Customer Review: Summer & Entertaining Favorite Summary: 5 Stars
My best friend got one of these before me and I was in awe. I've had mine for some years now and it is fantastic! Instant iced-tea? This is a Southern girl's dream! I make traditional sweet tea, but please don't think you are limited to the traditional. When I made Middle Eastern food, I used this to make mint tea for my guests. I often mix herbal and black teas to keep my people guessing.
I didn't like the results I got when I used loose tea, even with a coffee filter. Bagged teas work just fine. I've found that doubling the required amount of tea and brewing with the nozzle almost fully closed work best. You can supposedly put the sweetner in the compartment with the tea bags. I prefer to sweeten after the tea has brewed.
Clean up is easy, I throw the appropriate parts in the dishwasher with some Dawn Plastic Booster to remove any staining. My only complaint is that I wish this came in black, so I could leave it on the counter.
Customer Review: pitcher will crack after first few uses Summary: 1 Stars
I have bought 3 of these tea makers and although they make good tea, the only ones in your house that will enjoy it is your kitchen counter or the bottom of your refrigerator. The pitcher will crack after only a few uses. I originally thought that it was because I put it in the dishwasher, so the next one I bought I washed only by hand. It also cracked and flooded my produce drawer and meat drawer of my fridge. I wrote to mr coffee and they did send replacement pitchers.....They all cracked after a few uses. I later bought a tm75 because the plastic was not supposed to be so brittle and cheap. this one was designed so poorly that it still leaks everywhere. The drip from the brewing basket is supposed to drip onto the spout of the pitcher, but it doesn't line up correctly and instead drips between the pitcher and the brewer. It ruined the grout of my floor tile. Wrote to Mr Coffee and waiting for a response. Either way, DO NOT waste your money on this brand.
