Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Mr. Coffee IDS77 Electric Coffee Grinder with Chamber Maid Cleaning System, Black

Customer Review: Everyday Coffee Grinder
Summary: 5 Stars

I use fresh ground whole bean coffee and a corningware percolator, sometimes french press - judge me how you will.

This is an exceedingly versatile grinder. I do not have experience with more advanced (expensive) systems, but have used a few of the other cheapies, and this one is superior to most. When taking off the lid, I have no problem with spilling grounds on the countertop as with some and the consistency is fairly good, unless grinding too coarse which results in some larger bean chunks.

A solution to this problem, which I learned from a friend who works at a reputable Pittsburgh coffee shop, is to actually pick up and shake the grinder while grinding. This results in a much more even grinding yield.

The bean chamber scraping system is a huge plus.

All in all, I give it an A+.

Customer Review: Great grinder for a clean freak!
Summary: 4 Stars

I have owned this grinder for several months an have found it to be a very good product. Several reviewers noted the "extremely short cord", I thought so too until the other day I decided to futz with it. Aha! I found that there is more cord VERY tightly wrapped around the interior of the base. Mystery solved!!I love flavored coffee so the fact that you can wash the grinder cup is FANTASTIC. The "cleaning system" does'nt scrape the bottom so I just use a pasrty brush to get all of the grounds out. The pour spout is not that great coffee tends to stick to the ridges on the inside of the pour spouts top, so again the trusty pastry brush to the rescue. It's noisy and scares the dog but most grinders are thats the nature of the beast. All in all this is a great little grinder, and for a clean freak like myself.... perfect.

Customer Review: Warning! May produce triangular shaped coffee grounds.
Summary: 5 Stars

This thing actually stops grinding when it thinks the beans are ground enough! Simply amazing!

I see people putting down the quality of grinds this thing produces. Get a life! I have no idea what a burr grinder is and I don't care very much. If YOU happen to know the differnce between the two, why are you on this products page reading my review? To look down upon all of us poor unfortunate casual coffee drinkers?

To me, ground coffee is ground coffee. I do not care if the grounds end up square or triangle. Its all the same to me.

In other words, unless you think you're cool depending on the shape of your coffee grounds, I am sure this device will work for you!

Also, the green light matches my coffee maker's light; its like they were made for each other.

Customer Review: Great Coffee Grinder
Summary: 5 Stars

Recently, my Cuisinart Grind and Brew coffee unit broke and I decided to go for the coffee grinder because the Cuisinart Grind and Brew model tends to have problems. I looked at various grinder and finally decided to purchase this one. Unlike the conventional model, the top unit of the grinder house can be detached for cleaning and puring the ground coffee into the coffee maker filter easily. When I set the unit for medium grinding setting, I can use less coffee in comparison to the use of my Cuisinart Grind and Brew coffee unit. And the good thing is that the power is not too fine to pass thru the filter either. If you have a black color coffee maker, it will fit very well with it. The grinder is not loud when it operates. Overall, I am very pleased with this product.

Customer Review: badly designed
Summary: 1 Stars

This is a poorly designed grinder, downright insulting, in fact, if you consider that the designers think you are stupid enough to fall for the Chamber Maid or the "benefits" of all the other rinky-dink features, like push-button grind control and timer. You don't need that stuff. And it takes two hands and more negotiation than I should have to give to get the grinding cup on and off. A simple grinder is all you need. You grind the coffee til you decide to stop. You tip it over to empty it and you can clean the well with your finger, a brush, or a towel. You don't need Mr. Coffee to think for you. Get outta my way, Mr. Coffee, I don't have time to play with you. Give me my simple one-hand operating grinder, and let me take care of the rest myself.
