Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Mr. Beer Premium Edition Home Microbrewery System

Customer Review: Worked out well with little hassle
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this for my husband and he's a big beer lover, especially of imported and darker beer. He went right to work making it and had no problems - it was easy and straight forward. He won't read a lot of anything and the directions were not at all hard to follow or overly wordy.
The only thing he didn't like about the kit were the sticker beer labels, which he threw away. The kit made good beer in exactly the time the directions said, everything went exactly as it should and was advertised.

He is very happy with the kit and is going to be buying refills soon. He did say that while the beer was good, next time he'll be buying the ale refills as it was not dark enough for his taste, but it was as advertised.

Customer Review: Good for a starter, but less than 24 bottles per brew
Summary: 2 Stars

I got my MrBeer kit last Christmas and have been using it for a year. At first, it was fun and some of the beers were good (Cowboy Golden Lager, West Coast Pale Ale, Classic American Blonde, and High Country Canadian Draft). However, they all had something in common: sediment, and lots of it. I could only get about 18 bottles (12 oz.) per brew, with the rest being sediment. The brews were also consistently cloudy. Going to the MrBeer website, these are apparently common issues. I've been doing this for a year and have decided I can buy 24 bottles of my favorite beers for the same price as the MrBeer refill kits that give me only 18 bottles. And don't go for the Standard Refills - you will want Deluxe or Premium.

Customer Review: Simple Introductory Kit
Summary: 5 Stars

I found this product easy to use, and produces a relatively good product. The beer that came with the kit was the Canadian Draft, which was fairly good. The information that comes with the kit is excellent, explains the process well, and provides easy ways to modify a recipe to create any number of experimental beers. I went to my local home-brew shop to get additional items, and advice. (Like mixing the priming sugar into the keg before bottling so all bottles are even). The kit is small enough that you don't need a lot of space, and everything can be done in a kitchen sink without a lot of mess. The larger kits need much more space, and probably wouldn't be usable without a laundry sink and a lot of clean-up.

Customer Review: Great for learning how to Home Brew
Summary: 5 Stars

What a great way to try home brewing without having to spend a lot of money or make a ton of beer. You only make 2 gallons at a time. It is also pretty easy to do. One thing this product needs is patience! If you follow the instructions, it will take 6 weeks for the finished product (1 week fermenting, 3 weeks carbonation, 2 weeks conditioning.) I bought this about a month ago and I have tried various bottles at various stages to see the affect on the taste. Waiting 3 weeks for the carbonation DOES make a difference! Let's see what cooling for a week or two does. But if you ever wanted to experiment with home brewing this is a great way to do it. Next attempt ... blueberry beer (there is a recipe!)

Customer Review: Great Introduction to Beer Making
Summary: 5 Stars

I received this kit as a gift. Took roughly 40 min to prepare and store for fermentation. Followed directions, and 2 weeks later had a surprisingly carbonated alcoholic beverage. I was very excited to tap a homemade brew. I have just recently ordered a refill kit from the products website. Good prices and quick shipping. I would highly recommend this product to anyone interested in brewing their own beer. As a side note, reading all included documentation prior to starting the brewing process is highly recommended. Sterilization and water quality are very important factors in producing a drinkable beverage. Take your time and you will be pleasantly surprised when your beer is ready to drink.
