Customer Review: Almost trashed it

I was very close to giving the Misto a bad review. I received this for Christmas, and have been using it for about 2 months. It was working great and I loved it, and had been even considering getting a second for other oils or salad dressings. Suddenly it stopped working. First it started to spit and sputter, and then would only come out in a constant stream. I went online to see if I could troubleshoot it. I found a lot of reviews where others had the same problem and were equally mystified. I finally found a suggestion for cleaning it and how to do so. So last night I cleaned it and left it to dry. I refilled it with EVOO and gave it a try and it works again. I'm thrilled because it's a great little kitchen gadget when it works. So if you get one just remember don't over-fill it, and clean it periodically. Now that it works again, I am definitely getting a second one.
Cleaning steps (directions as I followed from the ehow website)
1.Empty the oil sprayer of any oil that still remains inside.
2.Pour 1/4 cup of vinegar in the oil sprayer. The vinegar will help break up the oil that is sticking to the sides of the sprayer. Squirt the vinegar out so that it comes up and through the spray tube.
3.Add a drip of dish soap to a cup of hot water and pour it in the sprayer. Spray again until all of the soapy water has run through the spray nozzle.
4. Rinse the oil sprayer with hot water and then fill it up with hot water. Spray the hot water out through the spray nozzle to rinse away any soapy water that is still in the oil sprayer.
5. Set out the oil sprayer to dry.

For spreading olive oil evenly on bruschetta, focaccia, and grilled or roasted vegetables, and for spraying muffin and cake pans with vegetable oil, this dispenser is a nifty tool. A plastic cap underneath the sprayer's top twists off so the sprayer can be half-filled (1/3 cup) with oil. Inside the top is a plastic tube that fits over the spray nozzle. Push the top up and down to pump air pressure into the canister. Then spray for 10 seconds and pump up again. It's simple, ingenious, and practical. With its cap on, the sprayer stands just 7-5/8 inches high, so it tucks away easily on any countertop.
