Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Misto Gourmet Olive Oil Sprayer, Brushed AluminumCustomer Review: Has saved me money Summary: 4 Stars
I've had mine for about 3 months now and it has held up fine. Perhaps it is just the luck of the draw for me.
I actually got mine in one of Amazon's 4 for 3 promos, and it has saved me a lot of money. I usually buy commercial sprays about every 2 weeks but have not had to, and I'm getting better quality olive oil, so I'd say it has paid for itself.
You have to prime it or it will not spray anything but a fine stream, so when you get it, make sure to prime it.
My only complaint is that when it is fully primed, I can't keep the lid on.
I took it to a big potluck and everyone seemed quietly fascinated by it. People were using it to spray their lettuce on their sandwiches in droves. It was kinda funny watching people watch other people trying to figure out what to do with it. :) That alone was worth the price. It was a party pleaser.
Customer Review: I Guess I needed to learn the Tricks Summary: 2 Stars
I really wanted to like this product. I bought it thinking I was going to love it. And I did, for a while.
My problem is that you can only fill it half full of oil so it felt like I was constantly filling it with oil after very little use. In addition to that after you spray oil on your pan for a short amount of time, you have to stop and repump it to that it will continue to spray a fine mist. Also it quickly got clogged and as one reviewer has stated, once it is clogged; it's goodbye Misto. I used mine probably less than a year before we finally went back to buying already canned spray oils.
I guess I should have read the reviews because it sounds like if you know the tricks and take the time to do the work such as loosening the top, you will be able to use this item for a long time.
good luck to other purchasers.
Customer Review: A Great Concept that Fails in Execution Summary: 1 Stars
I had a similar experience to most of the other reviewers. I had great hopes of this product -- expected to enjoy low fat cookery without the mass-produced flavor of most commercial cooking sprays. I had visions of chicken enlivened with pecan oil; salmon fired up with hot sesame oil; fresh tomato pasta sauce with just a hint of extra, extra virgin olive oil. Well you get the picture. However, I was doomed to disappointment. I filled it the first time with best-quality olive oil. The first spray worked just fine. And the second. But come to use it the third time and the plastic "guts" were broken -- irretrievably. A costly kitchen gizmo obliterated by a 5-cent part. I'd love to see this product relaunched with interior workings to match its exterior. Until then, guess I'll just have to keep using Pam and dreaming of something better. Sigh...
Customer Review: works as advertised Summary: 5 Stars
Just got Misto and the thing actually works. It's very straightforward to use. The spray isn't as fine as with a can of Pam but I feel better not polluting the Earth with dozens of empty steel cans. The spray is good for everyday purposes. It's well made and even looks elegant with the stainless steel appearance so I can leave it on my countertop with my spices. It does take a little bit of work to pump air into the canister to get the pressure but it's small price to pay for a reusable canister. I put regular vegetable oil in it and used it for frying eggs. I plan to use it for a non-fried baked chicken recipe. Normally I drizzle oil on breaded chicken and bake it. I expect it will be better with Misto because I won't have to use as much oil. Great product. Wish I had discovered this years ago. Arrived in perfect condition.
Customer Review: TRY IT -- YOU'LL LOVE IT!! Summary: 5 Stars
When I first got the Misto, I was reluctant to pump it very hard. I've never had anything like it, but it was recommended by a friend, so I gave it a try. I was afraid I would break it. But, I soon learned that I needed to pump it 15-20 times to built up the pressure at first. After that, 4-5 pumps is all that is needed to spray enough oil to do the job. Mostly, I use the Misto to spray olive oil on veggies that I am grilling, or on meat or fish. It puts out a light spray and adds just the right amount of that delicious olive oil taste. I have not had ANY of the problems that the other reviewers stated - such as leaking oil on hands or floor. It works great and sits on my counter next to the stove all the time. I don't know what I did without it. I would recommend it to any gourmet or non-gourmet cooks. You will not be dissapointed.
