Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Misto Gourmet Olive Oil Sprayer, Brushed Aluminum

Customer Review: should function better if so loudly displaying brand name...
Summary: 2 Stars

I like adding a touch of olive oil to my dishes, but the problem is it comes out far too easily from bottle = gobs of unwanted fat and kcals; hence the purchase.

There are three things that eventually made me discard the product:

1) LOUD-ASS BRAND NAME ON PRODUCT: this was just annoying in the first place, but because it seemed like the best oil sprayer available on amazon, I bought it anyway and covered it with electrical tape.

2) INCONSISTENT SPRAYING: after similar levels of pressure/pumping, sometimes you'd get a mist, sometimes it would shoot out in a relatively fine stream. Having it stream defeats the purpose of the sprayer.

3) OIL LEAKAGE!: this was the act that caused me to toss the thing. Oil began to leak not only from the suction 'tube' inside, but also from the white screw-on cap. Oil drips all over the place; not fun.

Annoying and dysfunctional does not a great product make.

Customer Review: Tried the tricks: wow, it's not actually broken!
Summary: 4 Stars

This is the beloved tool of salad eaters and portion controllers.

We are strict about kitchen tools in my house. They must meet one of two criteria: space and flavor. We find that criteria like expediency and waist-lines usually violate our first two, but this mister is a great exception.

The fine mist ideal for two other applications: greasing baking pans (sayonara, Pam!) and oiling up delicate things that I don't want to toss too much (e.g., pan-roasted artichoke hearts, oven-roasted asparagus, sweet potato oven-baked fries).

Now that we are learning more cooking techniques in the kitchen, I hate to ruin my practice with a cold, ad-hoc dose of oil.

Like many tools, even intuitive ones need you to learn a little first. Once I read the tips on reviews here, I realized this is not broken, I was! Now it's out of the cupboard and back in full rotation on the counter, going strong at year 5.

Customer Review: Great for those who don't like the canned oils!
Summary: 5 Stars

This was another part of my sister's Christmas gift that she had said that she really wanted. She had one picked out at Target, but after reading the reviews bothe on this site and Target's site I knew that I couldn't get her the exact one that she had picke out. I am very particular about my purchases. I will look at reviews from several websites before making any purchase. This item was used as part of her gift that fell under the free shipping and had some very good reviews. When she opened her gift and saw that she got 3 items that she really wanted she was happy!! I told here that I didn't get the first one she had choosen due to it's reviews. Then I told her about how this one had great reviews (and I pointed out the o-ring that she needs to make sure that doesn't get lost when washing, something that I also learned from several other product reviews). She was very happy!! Now she can make her own oil sprays (and save $$).

Customer Review: Love It!
Summary: 5 Stars

Since cutting butter out of my diet, I have been using olive oil to grease my pans. However, I do not like greasy/oily food so I prefer a thin coat of oil. I had tried several other methods of spreading oil out in the past, but they were all messy and/or wasteful. The Misto solved both of these problems by spraying a thin, even coat of oil over all my pans with no mess!

The only problem I had when I first got it resulted from filling it too full. At first it would only spray a few seconds before sputtering but as the level went down it worked better. I learned to only fill it half full and it has worked perfectly ever since. I have not had any issues with clogging, but I am going to take other reviewers' advice and depressurize it after each use from now on.

If you cook with oil a lot I highly reccomend this product. And mine will easily pay for itself by eliminating all the oil I used to waste!

Customer Review: spritzy
Summary: 4 Stars

I am only giving it a four star because it does sputter a bit and it is a bit of a pain to pump the thing. I am still giving it four, though, because I love it. It looks nice on my counter top, and I use it on everything. It puts out just the right amount of spray without ending up with too much. You just have to keep spritzing until it is the right amount. I pump it about 9 times each time I use it and it usually is enough to spray whatever I am cooking (before having to re-pump it).

I pop popcorn in a microwave air popper nightly and coat it with this (shaking the bowl after each sprit) and adding a tiny bit of salt. Much healthier than most bagged popcorn, and tastes great. Hint use Extra Virgin Olive Oil (healthier for you than "non - virgin"). I also use it on all my veggies, and it gets rid of the nasty slimy mess you have from too much oil. So, while it isn't perfect, I give it a huge thumbs up.
