Description of Mikasa Invitation Platinum 14-Inch Oval Fine China Platter
Mikasa has been in the business of setting beautiful tables since 1948. Best known for their fashionable designs, Mikasa dishes are also well made and reasonably priced. The Invitation platinum pattern is a study in clean, contemporary lines. Made of fine white china, the 14-1/2-inch platter is distinguished by a brushed platinum band around the rim of the plate. The band is broken by four cutout white spaces--one at each edge--with four polished platinum cutouts in negative image. Finer eggshell white bands emanate from the band across the platter's lip like sound waves. A single sharp polished platinum line at the inner edge of the lip perfects the balance of light and shadow and seems almost to make the dish hum. Reminiscent of 1940s art deco designs, this china feels wonderfully sophisticated. It will make you want to entertain.
