Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Mica Torchiere from Destination LightingCustomer Review: great lamp while it lasted.... Summary: 3 Stars
I bought two of these lamps at Bed Bath & Beyond a few years ago, and thought they were really great until I noticed the mica shade, which is really plastic, was starting to melt near the bulb (on both). There was just a bit of discoloration and bubbling, but it looked dangerous so I threw them away. (You can't replace the shade on this)
But it's a great looking lamp at a budget price, and I really did like them a lot. Maybe just too good to be true.
I should mention that I was using the correct wattage bulb. So if you do buy it, just keep an eye on the inside of the shade, near the fixture.
Customer Review: Lamp shade is melting too Summary: 1 Stars
We bought two of these lamps almost two years ago and have only used the correct 50-100-150 watt bulb. The other day we smelled something burning. Looking into the shade which is plastic, we could see that it was blackened and melting. Our lamps were made by Tensor, which is owned by Catalina lighting. I have a trouble call into Catalina, even though we are out of the warranty, this appears to be a serious design flaw. Hopefully they will stand behind their product and ship us a replacement shade that doesn't melt. Otherwise, I would steer clear of this maodel.
