We received our black-finished "Rabbit" as a gift. Once I learned how to use it, it removed and ejected the cork as advertised. However, after about 7 months, the spiral screw bent as I was inserting it into a cork. I removed the damaged screw with some difficulty and installed the spare provided--then ordered several more. Two days ago, the rack gear slipped a cog as I was removing a cork and I could not figure out how to fix it. Last night, it slipped another cog--making the whole device unusable. To return it for repair will cost $10 (for "shipping and handling") plus the cost to send it back. Based on other reviews here, I opted to write off the "rabbit" and return to more robust openers.Customer Review: it's too cheap!

I bought both this and the similar version from Brookstone this year. I was expecting a lot from the metrokane, but it turns out the Brookstone is much better. It's $60, but the Brookstone version will last you MUCH longer than the $45 metrokane.
Among the differences: The metrokane is made of plastic, the Brookstone is metal. The Brookstone model comes with two bottle sealers, and it's case is made of very high quality leather-like material instead of cheap plastic. Finally, my metrokane is brand new, and I've already managed to scratch the finish, since it's so cheap.
If you're looking to get a new wine opener, do yourself a favor and BUY ANOTHER BRAND.

... I got the corkscrew as a present. It stopped working after just a few months of use. The manufacturer's literature says that the product has a 2 year warranty, yet for more than two (2!) months I have been leaving messages for their service/repair folks and nobody bothers to return phone calls! In fact, I have never been able to speak with anyone at that company (other phone options include sales, accounting, and a few more). What is going on with these people? Maybe this product is so bad that they are flooded with repair calls and they do not bother to call hoping that people will just say "forget it" and go away. I did not know what to expect when I got the Rabbit, but once I read the instructions and used it a couple of time. I discovered what a cool wine opening device it is. It will pull a cork cleanly and smooth from a wine bottle with very little effort. There are not pieces of the cork broken off. Then you can remove the cork from the cork screw smoothly and cleanly. You would think that after 1000s of years of using corks to cap bottles someone would develop an efficient device that would do it easily. Well the rabbit is that device. The only thing I could criticism it for is that it was not offered to me as all metal. That way my relatives could fight over it once I am gone.Customer Review: It works fine...

I bought this for my stepdad over the holidays. At the time, the normal price was listed at $110, and it was on sale for about $55. Because of it's original high price, I expected something that felt much more high quality. I was under the impression that the whole thing was stainless steel. However, most of the pieces feel like plastic, and it was made in China. The case is also lightweight plastic and feels pretty cheap.
Even though it feels cheaper than the price would indicate, I give it 3 stars since it seems to be getting the job done well enough. I was just a little embarrassed to give this as a gift, thinking it would be more high quality.
