Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Metrokane Rabbit Corkscrew, BlackCustomer Review: An amazing product at a GREAT price! Summary: 5 Stars
If you've ever struggled with cork screws then this is the one for you. It removes corks effortlessly in seconds. After buying this I took it to a dinner party. The hostess tried the Metrokane Rabbit Corkscrew and immediately started laughing. Prior to this, she was under treatment for crumblecorkaphobia (the very rational fear of ruining a good bottle of wine by incorrectly removing the cork). She called her physician the next day and cancelled future appointments! Okay, I admit that I made up the part about the phobia...but she really was amazed and has since purchased one of her own.
Customer Review: Ridiculous product Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this corkscrew for my mom after I read some reviews of how revolutionary it was. She opened it and loved it right off the bat. Then, after less than a month, it stopped working. What happens is the little cap that covers the top of metal screw itself pops off as soon as you push down on the handle so the corkscrew just pops out of the top instead of going into the cork. It happens with all types of corks and with any pressure. So this ridiculous $50 corkscrew (at the time i bought it) is completely useless! (unless you want to pay an additional $10 for a replacement. Thanks but no thanks!)
Customer Review: Inspires alcoholism Summary: 5 Stars
This thing is an engineering marvel. Anyone who's interested at all in gadgets and needless extravagance will drool at the sight of this thing in action. It's really easy to use, too, which is the weirdest part. You push the lever down and pull it back up, nothing more. The first time I used it, I remember thinking, "When do I turn something?". I was so intrigued by the technical feat I became to default bottle opener at the party and sent people home with a new appreciation for the words "completely sloshed". That never really happened, but it's a cool corkscrew nonetheless.
Customer Review: Works well.... sometimes Summary: 3 Stars
I bought the Rabbit a year ago at Costco. At first, I liked it so much that I bought a couple more to give as gifts. Unfortunately, everyone I know who owns the Rabbit and drinks wine regularly has been frustrated by it. It has a particularly hard time with white wines and synthetic corks. The main problem is not getting the corkscrew to go in, but getting the cork off of the corkscrew after you've opened the bottle. If you drink mostly reds that don't use synthetic corks, it works pretty well. Otherwise I would recommend a more traditional corkscrew like those used at restaurants.
Customer Review: Excellent - With a Little Trick Summary: 5 Stars
I've used my Metrokane Rabbit Corkscrew for four years several times each week and it works great. I've read reviews that some users get frustrated if the screw comes up without the cork. (Well of course). But there's no need to send it back or do any tweaking. There's a simple trick to solve this. After you drive the screw into the cork, grasp the bottle firmly in one hand and turn the clamped Rabbit a quarter turn or so clockwise. This will "start" the cork upward along the screw and out ot the bottle. Now pull the lever back and up it comes ... every time.
