I saw these on sale on Amazon for a price that was too good for me to ignore. I bought them for the kitchen. I have several other kitchen sheers, which I use, but these are the most comfortable. They are ergonomically designed to fit on the right hand, so I'm not sure you lefties would enjoy them quite as much. The blades are really sharp and the twig-cutter design makes them useful to cut through chicken bones.
I think where they will really shine is dismembering and extracting lobsters or crabs. The silicone or silicone-like lined grips are likely to function better when the shears get greasy, and they will open small bottle caps quite easily. Kudos for the design and quality manufacture.
Let me also emphasize these are "utility" shears, so I will probably have to buy a second set for my wife with her sewing and projects.

After reading the Cooks Illustrated review on these went to Amazon. CI rated them tops and they're usually right. These things are great! I've owned several different poultry shears and they never worked. I always went back to using a knife. These aren't marketed as poultry shears, but they do the job very well. Something about the leverage they provide just works. One other thing: You know how you have those lids that have loose handles? You always mean to fix it but don't want to get a screwdriver right in the middle of prepping a meal? This has a little screwdriver that is just the right size. I know, kind of minor, but I use it all the time and find it a great addition. Anyway, I love these things and highly recommend them. I am a gadget type of guy. I got these shears because it is a reputable brand and because i can take them apart to wash them in the dishwasher. Although I own mostly all Wuhstoff products, I had to go with the Messermeister shears over the wuhstoff due to the lenght and width of the scissors. They seemed to be more versatile. Not only was I impressed by the fact that they do not stain (like many of my other stainless steel sheers), but i was more impressed with how well they work for the many kitchen tasks I use them for. They are very sharp and are low maintenance. I have used them for cutting flower stems to cutting chicken bones. They work excellent and I still have not had to sharpen them after these last couple of years of regular use.Customer Review: Don't rely on Cooks Illustrated for this one!

This is the second item that CI was totally off the mark on. Unless I got a defective model, this is probably the WORST pair of kitchen shears I've had and that number is 4 and counting. You must use the tips ONLY, if trying to cut ANYTHING! I find this to be true with most kitchen shears. Also, as several others commented, they come apart while you're using them....it shouldn't be that easy to clean them....I'm using them to cut, first and foremost. And, again,no German craftsmanship here....unless
Germany moved East. Junk quality! I'll go back to my Pampered Chef's ...at least they stay stay connected while you're using them.

This is one great pair of shears to use in the kitchen, especially for cutting chicken. They are super sharp right out of the package and also very comfortable to use. Cook's Illustrated were right on about these. They can also be used to open jars, bottle caps and cutting and trimming meats. Because they take apart so easily there is no worry about getting them clean enough. Great job Messermeister and well worth the money. Thanks for making such a great quality produt that should last for years. If you want a great pair of sharp shears to use in the kitchen get these, you won't be disappointed.
