Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Melitta Ready Set Joe Single Cup Coffee BrewerCustomer Review: Efficient, inexpensive, excellent coffee, one cup at a time. Summary: 5 Stars
The coffee must be ground fine; that is a more fine grind than for paper drip. The coffee is in contact with the water for a short time therefore you need a finer grind.
The directions I have read say to wet the grounds with some water and wait 15-45 seconds. This prepares them to release the 'coffee'. Then pour the remaining water. Pouring somewhat quickly stirs up the grinds. The slurry then drains leaving a thin uniform layer of coffee grounds on the filter.
2 tablespoons of finely ground coffee...12 oz water in the microwave for 3 minutes (while your getting your cup, the filter and measuring the coffee)...soak the coffee grounds...wait 15 seconds...pour the remainder of the water and go get your half and half from the fridge. Perfect coffee every time IF you use a quality coffee, properly ground. The used filter and coffee goes in the compost pile.
Efficient, inexpensive, excellent coffee, one cup at a time. It's the exact opposite of the Keurig system.
Customer Review: It's simple, it's quick and it works. Summary: 5 Stars
I was thrilled to discover, while searching for a similar (but fancier and much more expensive) coffee maker, that this product was available. I really don't need a coffee maker, because I'm the only coffee drinker in the household. It seemed silly and wasteful to buy one, so I kept putting it off, until I discovered this.
I planned to buy it here, but last night I found it in a local grocery store, nestled in the corner of the coffee filter shelves. Its price was wonderful, the filters were inexpensive, and I didn't even need them, because I found a small package of filters inside the box.
Melitta's "ReadySetJoe" is a wonderful device. This morning I got up and made one great cup of coffee, easily and simply. I'm not a "real" coffee drinker, I just want a cup or two of coffee that tastes exactly like a Coffee Nip (fellow Southerners, you know what I mean).
And Melitta "ReadySetJoe" worked perfectly.
Customer Review: Great way to make coffee Summary: 5 Stars
It doesn't get much more simple than this. I'm very happy with my Melitta filter cone.
Pros:
- Makes great, consistent coffee (or at least as consistent as the person making it!)
- CHEAP
- Takes up little space
- Includes free filters
- Perfect for those who may not drink coffee, but want to be able to provide a cup to the occasional guest.
Cons:
- Not the best way to make coffee for 10 guests (clearly)
- Takes patience as you pour (but not that much)
I live in a small house, so anything I can do to free up counter space is worth it. For a few bucks, this is a great way to make yourself a cup of coffee, or serve a couple of friends. You won't entertain a whole party this way, but it's clearly not the intent.
The product is so simple, I wonder why it isn't more popular. I love making coffee this way!
Customer Review: Simple but functional Summary: 4 Stars
The principle of operation is so simple that it's hard to mess it up. It's a plastic cone with a hole in the bottom, attached to a wide disk that sits on top of your mug. (Most mugs will fit, except maybe some really huge ones.) You put coffee in a filter in the cone, set the device on your mug, and add hot water. There's also a handle to pick it up by.
It works quite well, but I have two minor gripes. It could be bigger: if you fill the cone to the top with hot water, you can fill a really small mug. It also has some crevices that are a little hard to clean if you should get anything disgusting in there.
They give you a packet with half a dozen filters sized to fit. When those run out, you can probably use just about any filters that are big enough, which isn't much of a restriction (see above).
Customer Review: Easy and makes a great cup of coffee Summary: 5 Stars
I have a white plastic Melitta cone filter for #102 Melitta coffee filters. In essence it is similar to the one advertised here except for the fact that it is an 'old style' version where you can't see the coffee drip into the cup. This is not a problem for me because I always only boil the amount of water I actually need for the cup that I am going to use to brew my coffee.
In my opinion, this is the single best coffee-related invention ever. It is so cheap that it is almost free. It lasts ages and most important, it gives you that classic, tasty cup of coffee. Sadly, with the rise of automated single-cup coffee machines like the Nespresso, a good cup of drip coffee is ever harder to find these days. Luckily, the Melitta company is still out there making these simple but efficient filter cones. Highly recommend!
