Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Melitta MEBG8B Coffee MillCustomer Review: makes a mess Summary: 2 Stars
I used this grinder for quite a while and it works well enough. However, it is very messy to clean and the front control buttons are easy to hit accidentally. For example; when you are removing the front chamber to empty the grounds, you would naturally grip around the middle of the unit and that's exactly where the control buttons are. It feels clumsy to hold on to the top just so you don't start coffee shooting all over the place (yes, I am embarrassed to say this had happened to myself and my mother-in-law when she tried to make coffee for us). I am now using a different grinder with a storage hopper but based on the reviews on the Capresso burr grinders I am ready to try one of theirs.
Customer Review: Great price/performance Summary: 5 Stars
I have to agree with the last reviewer. This grinder is great for the money. I had another burr grinder that broke. It had an egg timer to select the amount of beans to grind. It was not accurate at all. This grinder's timer is electronic so you get very consistant measures of grind. I just push the "4" button on the grinder and in a few seconds I have just enough for a 4 pot. No scoops to deal with; just dump the bin in my coffee maker. Plus this unit is quieter than the other one I had. The only complaint is the bean holder could be bigger and the grinder does leave behind some coffee dust on the counter, but most of them do. You can't go wrong for such an inexpensive unit.
Customer Review: Needs adjustment - but well worth it Summary: 4 Stars
The adjustment described by R. Johnson works well. The grind is still not perfect (maybe just a little coarser than I'd like). But it gets pretty close to perfect. This grinder is great for people who don't like to measure the amount they are going to grind (like my wife). I give 4 instead of 5 stars - because without the adjustment the grind is definitely too coarse as other reviewers mentioned. If it came already grinding this fine - 5 stars plus for the $15 price tag.
Nevertheless, if you are not willing to take this thing apart and adjust the fineness - I would stay away. Without the grind wheel adjustment, I would give it 2 stars and wished I hadn't bought it.
Customer Review: Not bad.... better than a blade grinder, after adjustment Summary: 4 Stars
First, I have to say it is way better than a blade grinder, and is small and cute. The plastic is a bit cheap and the lid to the bean hopper seems to not fit very well.... However, after making the re-calibration adjustment and tightening the burr grinders--see R. Johnson's advice and instructions: "Very Satisfactory With A Little Adjustment". Now it is giving us a grind fine enough for our espresso maker, and relatively uniform in size. Agreed, it is a little messy to grind coffee at home, but I think this will tend to be true of nearly all coffee grinders. For $20 and a minor adjustment, it's perfect for those of us who would rather spend more on their coffee beans!
Customer Review: Useless! Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this grinder to go with a brand new Bialetti Moka Expreess espresso pot I received for Christmas. I've heard that burr mills are the best way to grind coffee. I wanted one, but I didn't want to spend big money. I wasn't expecting much for the price of this mill, but I thought, "How bad could it be?" Man, was I wrong! No matter how I adjusted this thing, the grind came out unusably coarse. It wouldn't grind fine enough for a percolator, much less espresso. Seriously, I could have done a better job with a hammer! It doesn't really deserve the one star I'm forced to give it. If you can't make coffee of any kind with what comes out of it, it's useless junk!
