Customer Review: The best bargain in coffee makers

I used to joke how simple coffee makers are. Why pay extra when all they have to do is pour hot water over the coffee grinds, right? Well..sorta. I had no idea how inadequately most auto drips heat the water. That is, until I started reading up on it.
I started looking for makers that can reach the required 185 degrees and there was only one for under a hundred bucks. The other is almost three hundred and it called a Technivorm. Then I bought this thing and *wow* what a difference a cheap little device can make. Waaay better than my auto drip Krups (although it was getting really old). I could not believe it. And I grind my own coffee every morning in a $200 grinder. So I guess I thought I knew what I was doing. I didn't.
So why would you not at least try this thing? It's cheaper than a pound of good coffee. Or 2 Starbucks lattes. For less than fifteen greenbacks and just a tiny bit more work (you can get an electric kettle which can be awesome at boiling water quickly) you can have incredibly good coffee. I made back-to-back cups of coffee between this Melitta "funnel" and my auto drip Krups and there was simply no comparison. This near boiling water method makes coffee that was far smoother and less bitter than the auto drip. You could use a gold filter to add some more weight if you really miss the more bitter auto drip taste. It doesn't fit snugly like a paper filter, but it works just fine.
So save your money and go a bit backward in technology. Your mouth will thank you and with the money you save buy a low-end burr grinder. Between these two items you will be 75% toward the best coffee you can possibly make. You'll have to roast your own coffee for that last 25%!
The downside: Are you kidding? None. It's like 12 bucks! Maybe it's too cheap?
