For $45 +s/h this could be a LOT less delicate. This isn't a component of some 1 or 2 quart coffee maker with a "ready-rest" place to fit it into. THIS sits directly on a person's kitchen counter.
Haven't the manufacturers heard of heavy gauge pyrex? I have a thick pyrex 1 pint measuring cup that fell from waist height to a ceramic tile floor and survived without incident. This thing broke with what was a much gentler tap than that, and on wood, to boot.
The worst thing about it? Once the thing is broken, all use of the distiller more or less stops, because the manufacturers haven't supplied an alternative outlet options, such as a short length of food-grade hose. (Trying to adapt a piece of food-grade water line to the little spout nubbin is a nightmare.)
It is long past time for manufacturers of expensive durable goods to start thinking hard about long-term use. The era of the disposable resource society is over. We are all going to have to be able to use what we buy for much longer than ever before. To be sure, we won't be buying crap that breaks easily and doesn't last against the normal chances of daily life.
