Customer Review: the trick w/ the Mr. Coffee EC5

After buying two $18 (incl s/h & tax) replacement glass carafes for an $11 coffeemaker, I had to try this one even on the off chance it works.
Just got it today and haven't brewed up yet, so I can't say if the metal leaches into the taste of the coffee or if it pours spill free, but right away there is a trick to making this serve as a replacement for the Mr. Coffee (Sunbeam) EC5 coffeemaker.
The Medelco comes with 2 adapters to match varying heights of the now common "Pause & Serve" spring loaded closure below the filter basket.
The tallest of the adapters is too high to fit the EC5. The lower adapter is too short IF YOU FULLY DEPRESS THE ADAPTER into the Medelco lid.
BUT, there is enough latitude in the pressure with which the Medelco lid holds the down spout on the lower adapter that the adapter will stay securely in the Medelco lid IF you do not press it all the way down flush with the top of the Medelco lid.
Leave a gap between the lip of the lower adapter and the top of the Medelco lid about as much as will pass a single medium thickness of corrugated cardboard.
This is just enough to open the spring loaded "Pause & Serve" valve on the EC5, but, on first impression, seems firm enough in the Medelco lid as to NOT be further pressed down when removing the pot from the coffeemaker, causing the adapter to be too low to be effective.
Other solutions come to mind, such as cutting away a couple or more millimeters of the lower edge of the taller adapter's outer ring to lower it sufficiently to fit under the EC5 filter basket,
or devising a spacer on the Medelco pot lid to force the lower adapter high enough,
but, for now, relying on an intermediate installation of the Medelco lower adapter as described above seems to work fine.
