Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Medelco #2 Cone Permanent Coffee FilterCustomer Review: Green Coffee in My RV!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this to use with my Melitta 64007B Single Cup Coffee Filter Cone ( BLACK ). It fits the Melitta perfectly and does not give an off-taste to the coffee like the paper filters do.
It is well made and I save $$$ by not using the single use paper filters and save a few trees as well. I like the fact that I do not have to be concerned with running out of filters.
This stores right inside the Melitta Filter so it takes up very little space. This set up is lightweight and compact. Being able to make brewed coffee with out the need for an electical coffee maker is a big plus for a FT RVer, esp. on travel days or when boondocking.
Customer Review: Works great for a manual drip coffee maker Summary: 4 Stars
I have a manual drip coffee maker - the plastic kind that sits on top of your coffee cup and makes one cup of coffee. This filter works great in it. Yes, the coffee comes out a little "sludgy" because more grounds get through - but I actually kind of like it that way. The water runs through the filter quite fast so I think the coffee would end up under-extracted with coarser grounds. I like not using disposable filters and I think the taste is great.
It cleans well - I knock the grounds out into the compost and then rinse it in the sink or wash in the top rack of the dishwasher. It has gotten about a year of daily use and shows no signs of wear.
Customer Review: Cleaning problems Summary: 4 Stars
The filter works well when it comes to brewing coffee. However, cleaning it is a bit of a problem. If I try to empty the filter immediately after making coffee I need to hit it hard against something (such as the counter) a number of times to get a fair amount of the coffee grounds out. If I let it dry out a bit it's somewhat easier to knock out more of the grounds. However, I still end up having to wash out a fair amount of coffee grounds and this raises concerns about eventually clogging my drains.
Customer Review: Doesn't fit my #2 filter coffee pot Summary: 1 Stars
It's difficult to determine whether I should attribute the negative review to the filter being the wrong size, or the pot not actually accommodating the size filter it says. (I have a Melita ME2TMB Take 2 Stainless Steel Travel Mug Coffeemaker, which brews fine using #2 paper filters.) Either way, this was a waste of money for me. It is too big to let the maker's lid close properly, so coffee cannot brew.
Customer Review: I would buy again, but not a 'perfect' fit Summary: 4 Stars
I have a #2 mini coffee maker (with 2 travel mugs). This works great, it's easy to clean, and does a good job.
The ONLY thing I can say bad, is the top lid of the coffee maker does always shut smoothly, or it 'bulges' a bit at the top... but otherwise, it does not affect operation/functionality.
