Customer Review: Basic but good

Not much to say - it's very basic and cheap and it does its job. It kind of looks like a small rice cooker, and the cooking bowl can be detached and put in a dishwasher.
I'm making meals with the slow cooker, and 1.5 quarts is definitely on the small side. With meat-centered dishes, 1.5 quarts is enough for about a pound and a half to a pound and three fourths of meat, some kind of marinade, and that's about it. It's enough for one person, but even for two people it's a little bit on the small side. If I was to go larger, I'd go for the ones that are programmable with timers, not just with the basic "warm-low-high" settings. They don't make such a thing for the smaller models, though.
This isn't a rub against the product itself, but I wonder if slow cooking is one kitchen gadget most people don't need. It's useful for two things: softening up tough cuts of meat, and preparing basic recipes that require little preparation and will be ready when you come home. True, you can get fancy with it, but by the time you do that, you might as well be cooking on the stovetop. Basically every slow cooker recipe will both work with a stove and taste better with stovetop preparation.
