Customer Review: Corner of lid cracked upon receipt

Upon receiving the product one corner of a lid (of two units purchased, one of 6 lids total) clearly evidences a 1/2" crack that is the result of a manufacturing defect. The crack does not affect the performance of the lid short term but given the thinness and the location of the crack it does appear it will continue to grow with use or a portion of the lid may ultimately break off. The engineering of plastic lids are: 1) Too thin for the application and/or 2) The selected plastic material is incorrect for the application and/or 3) The manufacturing process including handling for the lids is improperly designed to prevent the defect. The lids are very thin, particularly near the edges, and are further susceptible to edge damage which will require careful handling to prevent further crack generation in the future. Beyond the lids the base works as designed and the chafing pans/steam heating process appears to work well and as represented in the product description. Am returning the defective unit (one of the two) for replacement and will decide on whether to keep both based on the appearance of further cracks or lack thereof. Were it not for the crack in one of the units this initial rating would have been higher. If a gentle form of warming is needed with the option of placing a casserole/liquid containing dish in direct contact with a warming surface this product is the ticket. Assuming no further cracks are realized suggest this is an overall acceptable value for the money.
