Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Max Burton 6000 1800-Watt Portable Induction CooktopCustomer Review: Induction is great, These Burtons are poorly made & crack! Summary: 2 Stars
I bought two of these and started using them Jan 2009, 5 months later both models have severe cracks in them!
Pros- Induction is the greatest cooking technology ever! The burners are slim and look great. They function well most of the time. Never a worry of burns on the stop top. The future of your kitchen. Will be the last stovetop before replicators.
Cons- Cheaply made! Cracks in the two I bought. Can overheat and turn off. Can't run two on a normal 15amp home circuit unless you use two different circuits. The stove tops don't clean easy. One of ours has a brown stain on the white pot ring.
Looks like you get what you pay for with these. I will be investing in a dbl burner commercial or prosumer model here soon. Induction will change the way you cook!
FYI- Getting good pots & pans that work with Induction is expensive and hard to find. That said, a certain Swedish home store that rhymes with tIKEa has great pots for a crazy low price. (I know my kitchen stuff!)
Customer Review: does anyone else have this issue? Summary: 3 Stars
Well, I THINK I like my induction burner, but it's going to take more getting used to than I realized. While boiling potatoes (granted, in a skillet, since I have limited cookware that is induction compatible), the water only heated up directly over the 4 inch 'ring of power,' and although it was bubbling merrily and the potatoes DID cook quickly, my thermometer told me that it was only 180 degrees in the midst of the madly bubbling mass (the potatoes were oddly drawn into the hot circle - it was cool!), and the outer temp - even after regular stirring - read much lower than that, even. Since I bought this burner hoping to be able to achieve low and slow cooking temps without having to stir constantly, I'm wondering how this will all pan out (har har...).
But I can't wait to use it to do water bath processing this summer, and to heat huge pans of water to cook corn, beets, tomatoes, etc. in - the lack of extraneous heat is amazing, and it makes me feel like a superstar t.v. chef to use this nifty device.
Customer Review: Not for long term Summary: 2 Stars
I purchased this item at the end of Jan 09. From the day it arrived it would randomly come up with an error that the book says needs to be unplugged to reset. I thought that it was OK to deal with this, reflecting back I don't know why. The cooktop has many neat features such as temperature control and timer so it shuts off after cooking for the time you set, which is great for someone that forgets the water is boiling until it is half gone. It boils water faster than any method I found.
The story ends this way, It is the end of October 09 and the unit blows a fuse if it is plugged in. Less than a year with a couple of months that it was not used is hardly a good product in my view. I would not purchase this model again, yet the concept of using induction cooking is awesome and I would choose a brand that has a better guarantee. This is ideal if you want a low cost test on what the technique is like, which is awesome.
Customer Review: Very please and surprised how it out performend other appliances Summary: 5 Stars
We order two, one for home and one for our motor home. If a magnet will stick to the bottom of your pan the Induction cooktop will cook in your pan. The Sunday before Thanksgiving we were going to do our turkey with all the fixens. But on Monday evening my wife and I had all the left overs when my daughter showed up with two grand children. Her husband was working late. My wife pulled the left overs out of the refrigerator and put things in the microwave, the convection oven and the new induction cooktop. The first thing done was the gravy, and were talking about right from the refrigerator. I couldn't believe how fast. We weren't racing the stuff but wow. She does have nice appiances and cook ware. In the past she sold Pampert Cheft articles. But you can't beat the speed at which this thing performs, and it will not heat up your kitchen or motor home. Just don't use it on a stainless steel counter.

Customer Review: Enjoying Induction Cooking to the Max! Summary: 5 Stars
Max Burton has successfully closed the price gap on induction cooktops! As a retired, Paris trained, professional chef, my favorite cookware is Staub enameled cast iron and commercial (220v.) induction cooktops easily the best performers. Even now, top tier portable induction cooktops (110v, 1800w) can run over $500 for one "burner." The 110v Max Burton 6000 has been upgraded to 1800w. (450°F) can be had on Amazon Prime for less than 20% of the cost of the high priced brand! Induction creates heat in the pan bottom rather than under it by exciting iron molecules electromagnetically. Any cookware that strongly clings to a pocket magnet is induction ready. Changes in heat ranges are instantaneous and no surface heating method is more economical or safer than induction cooking. All it takes is 110v (15a) outlet. We just returned from Yosemite where my Max Burton was the star of "Housekeeping Camp."
