Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Maverick ET-7 Remote-Check Wireless Thermometer With 2 ProbesCustomer Review: One of my favorite gadgets Summary: 5 Stars
This is useful and fun, what more could you ask ? You can use one or two probes. The probes are connected to the transmitter, you then turn on the remote, then the transmitter. I use it for everything, steaks, chops, whatever. I go into the living room and watch the remote. When the temperature gets over about 100 I turn the meat over if necessary. The only thing I have noticed is the temperatures that trigger the audible alarm are set too high, likely thanks to lawyers. For example, when I set it to medium rare for beef, it was more like medium. Now I set it on rare ( 140 ) and get a perfect medium rare. For pork the number is 170. I take it off at 160. After all, it continues to cook after it is taken off. Before I bought this I used to guess but now I get perfect results every time. Highly recommended.
Customer Review: Avoid this Unit Wireless range very limited... Summary: 1 Stars
I guess I will chalk this up to $39.99 down the drain. I bought this because I do a lot of smoking of BBQ. I had another unit that was a single wireless probe that always worked like a champ (Maverick ET-71). Its range is good enough for me to sit in my living room (through 1-2 walls and probably about 30 feet from the smoker), but this one I can't even walk away more than 25 feet outside, and I get no signal in the house not even the closest location to the smoker going through just one wall and it being maybe 15 feet away.
I am extremely dissappointed, and I might has well have just bought another one probe ET-71 and just carried around two receivers. I was extremely hopeful for this product after Maverick had made such a good product in the ET-71, but I guess I was wrong.
Customer Review: Must-have for Barbecue. Summary: 5 Stars
At first, it worked very well. I was able to monitor temperatures from my basement using the receiver with the smoker outside at ground level. I do a lot of low-and-slow smoking and was really stoked about this product - no need to check the temperature every fifteen minutes.
At some point, the receiver just stopped seeing the signal from the transmitter. The transmitter still works as a dual-probe thermometer, which is useful, but I have to check it visually now.
When I first started using this product, I could use the probes monitor the temperature of the meat AND the internal temperature of the smoker from inside my home. Not so much after a few months. Looks like the best bet may be a network-connected base unit transmitting to the home network.
Customer Review: Wireless Meat Thermometer: Ok, but could be better Summary: 3 Stars
I really like the two probe feature and it works accurately and reliably as a digital thermometer. What is poor about this product is the wireless feature. The range is so short that other than sitting on a chair a few feet away, it really isn't much good. That said, I like sitting on my patio swing with a beer watching the smoker from a distance(10-20ft), so I'm not totally disappointed. It just would be better if I could go into the house and walk around while I'm smoking stuff.
I think I only paid $35 for this, so it's not so bad, in the context of what a "Green Egg" costs. It just could be better. I like the idea of a wireless device and before I bought this one again I'd shop around to see if there is one with better range, but I wouldn't pay much more for it.
Customer Review: Great idea, but ... Summary: 1 Stars
Apparently this company doesn't have terrific quality control; reviews of their other thermometers frequently mention problems with bad batches of product. This is the first item I've bought from their line, and it's a bust. The transmitter and receiver lose their connection every couple of hours, and don't communicate at all when separated by 25 feet or more. Much worse, the sensors register temps at least 40 degrees lower than actual temps, as measured by charcoal ribs and a cheap but reliable instant-read thermometer I used as a control after ruining the first batch. I'll exchange this one for another because the problem MIGHT be the batch, and because this is a great idea and very handy for long, slow barbecue cooking. Meanwhile, I'm not just unimpressed but disgusted.
