Customer Review: Great thermometer, if it works and lousy customer service if you can talk to them.

I have a dual oven and the wife is constantly baking (I have the gut to prove it), so I thought this would be a great kitchen aid for her baking. The reviews seem pretty good so I placed an order for two. The seller was excellent and the thermometers arrived intact and in a timely matter! The thermometers were all new, no shipping damage and factory batteries were included too. One unit switched right on and was ready for duty and the other one needed a fresh battery but so far so good. I read the instructions and placed the wired thermometer in each oven as instructed and switched on both ovens. As the ovens heated up, nothing, the display on both, went from LO to HIGH after 2 minutes. No temp indicated, switched off ovens removed thermometers from oven and waited for them to cool down to room temp and display still said HIGH. So two new units, two dead units, grrr.
Waited the next day to call Maverick in NJ. The first try I get a live person and she said it is more then likely the thermometer bulb, she will quickly send a replacement. I told her I had two of them and she said not a problem. So I wait and wait...two weeks later I call again, left a message asking where the parts are. No return call and of course the mail shows up with a envelope from Maverick. The reason the shipping took two weeks was parts was shipped on 6/24 (I called on the 14th) and they misspelled my street (I guess I don't know where I live). To no surprise I get only one new thermometer and at least this one does what it claims to do.
From what I can tell the thermometer is fairly accurate when compared to my digital thermocouple and has some good features like a built in timer and temp warning. As for the service from the company that makes this, let's just say I would avoid them all together like the plague. I refuse spend my money with any company that does not answer phone calls or return a phone call. I think it is rude and if a person did this, I would not what to make them a friend. The Maverick company is no friend of mine!!!
Description of Maverick Baker's Oven Thermometer
Simply a must-have for the avid baker, the Baker's Oven Thermometer lets you know the constant temperature of your oven throughout the cooking process-measuring from 112 to 572 degrees fahrenheit. The easy-to-read LCD display shows elapsed cooking time, target temperature and constant average of the actual oven temperature. This revolutionary thermometer recalculates and updates this average every 10 seconds, and compares it to the set target temperature. What's more, it alerts you if the temperature swings 15 degrees above or below your target temperature. Measurements are taken by using a probe sensor with oven rack clip and insulated metal wire that psses between the oven door seal back to the unit. With some ovens varying as much as 50 degrees fahrenheit from the set temperature on the dial, you can be assured that your cooking at the correct temperature every time. Additional features include a 20 hour count-up or count-down timer, detachable stand for countertop use, and magnets on the back for stickng to metal surfaces.
