Customer Review: great pitcher and filter system

I have had this filter and pitcher system for over almost two months now and waited to create a review until I was sure of what I could say. I am not sure--this is a great filter and pitcher system. I have read other reviews that said there were problems with the filtration system or the lid on the pitcher leaking. I have not had any problems with either. The lid will leak a bit around the handle if you fill it too full. Obvious solution to this "problem"--don't fill it so full. If I do overfill it a bit, I just wait a few minutes for some water to filter through and then it won't leak. The other "problem" isn't a problem either. I read people say it takes too long for the water to filter. I agree that it does take longer than our old Brita filter. However it takes just as long as it takes to filter the water. I would prefer it to be faster, obviously. But it isn't, so that's that. Just a word of warning--the filter "clock" lets you know when it is time to change the filter. The "clock" does not use a volume of water to determine when the filter is used up. It simply waits two months and then tells you it is time to change the filter. It might not be time. That will all depend on how much you use the filter. One reviewer said the hadn't used their filter for several weeks, yet it still told them it was time to change the filter. I found the same thing with my old Brita filter system. We use them regularly, but the filters lasted longer than 2 months. I believe this filtration system will also last longer than two months. I could always taste the difference in my water when the filter was used up. I expect to do the same thing with this one as well. Note--It is my belief, and other reviewers, that the "Maeva" system is actually the Brita filter under a different name. Both Brita and Maeva filters are manufactured in Germany, and in the same town in Germany. The pitchers are also manufactured in the same town in Germany. Coincidence? Possibly. Or the company simply manufactures the same basic system under two different names, one for the U.S. and one for Europe. Now they are introducing the "Maeva" brand to America. So if you want a cheaper system that will most likely be exactly the same...go with the Brita. But my wife loves the red color. Thus we have the Maeva system. 4/4/2011
