I purchased this recently and am very pleased with the soothing, swishing, fan sound of this machine. I keep it at its highest level (which isn't really that loud or impressive until you actually go to sleep and discover it is perfect). Since my bedroom is directly above the family-room it nicely drowns out the sound. Another plus is that it isn't so loud that you aren't able to hear doors opening or closing which I consider a big plus. Personally, I think it is the perfect white noise machine, well made and worth the extra money to be rid of the clicks and clacks of the cheaper brands.Customer Review: After 6 Years - A Good Nights's Sleep!!!

I have not been able to sleep through the night in 6 years! My partner snores and I assure you, he is not a light snorer! Without going into details of the noises that have kept me up and in tears, I found this product! It works, it really works.
We don't need separate bedrooms now and even though I still wear my earplugs, without the Marpac Sleep Mate I still could hear him clearly. Now the sounds have disappeared.
So if your spouse chooses not to seek help for snoring, insisting nothing will work I can assure you this wonderful product works for us.

We had purchased one of these about three years ago to drown out the noise of our four teenage boys, who had a tendency to stay up way beyond their parents bedtime. It works great! A few months ago one of our sons got a third shift job and was having problems with sleeping during the day, so I let him try out our Sleep Mate. He liked it so well that I had to keep retrieving it from his room every night before I went to bed, so I finally gave in and bought him one of his own. I would recommend this to anyone who has problems with sleeping because of outside noises.Customer Review: works great for sleeping kids

With two little ones there's always concern that one will wake the other in the middle of the night. When summer ended and a/c and fans were no longer running, I decided to buy one of these for each kid.
they work great. they have cushioning on the bottom to keep them from vibrating, so the white noise is really pure. most importantly, when I'm in my sons room, I can barely hear my daughter crying.
Small enough to bring on family visits (when the people you're visiting are really loud, this is important).
Only complaint is that it's a bit pricey.

This machine has made all the difference between getting a good day's sleep and being miserable on night shift. The sound (on low) muffles all the ordinary in-home and outer neighborhood noises so that there are no sharp sounds to wake me up. I am still able hear noises that I deem neccessary (company coming & going, an anticipated delivery, etc) so that I don't feel my security is compromised like it would be with earplugs. I took it on vacation and it made such a difference in our motel stay by blocking out all the surrounding noise. I love this machine!
