Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Mario Batali 6-Quart Italian Essentials Pot , ChiantiCustomer Review: It made a Foodie out of me Summary: 5 Stars
I was trying to teach myself to cook and found that several recipes I wanted to try called for a "dutch oven." Having no idea what that was, I went to the local, high-end kitchen goods store and came out with this pot. This item has become a staple tool, if not THE staple tool, of my kitchen.
Pros:
- works easily well as a dutch oven, roasting veggies, meats, etc. as it does as a large pot for making pasta, soup, etc. in
- really is the ONLY pot I need, great size
- heavy duty - has stood up to two years of every-other-day use and still going strong
- easy to clean. even hardest stuck-on junk comes off with a soak
- requires no seasoning. even a newbie like me could use it and become a better cook with it
- white interior makes it easy to see what you're doing and if your food is cooking up properly
- works on any surface and in the oven equally well. used to have an electric stove, then got a glass-top, now cook on a propane. works best on the propane (love that stove!) but can work on all
Mehs:
I'm not going to call these "cons," but they are sort of the not-so-amazing stuff
- yes, it DOES STAIN AND CHIP - mine stained on the inside white and the enamel on the handles chipped very early on (i dropped the lid on the handle). i don't really care, as it works just fine, but it does mess with the appearance. i never thought of this as a serving dish, though.
- heavyish. okay, it's heavy duty, but its also a little on the heavy side. i can lift it just fine (i'm an average lady), but it the thing is iron inside and you won't forget it
- HOT HANDLE. the handle on top is metal and it gets HOT. so do the handles. this is something where you'll want the heat-pads handy.
- not compact to store. obviously, but it's not the easiest thing to find room for in the cupboards. still, it's rarely in there for very long. i might as well just leave it on the stove top.
in short, if i had only two items in my kitchen it would be my good frying pan and this. and actually, i could get by with frying in this if i had to. truly a very nice item, reasonably priced here on amazon, and it holds up to use and abuse. just plan on getting more utility than looks out of it.
