Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Mario Batali 13-Inch Wooden Soup Spoon, Beechwood

Customer Review: Big chunky wooden spoon, shallow bowl.
Summary: 3 Stars

I was not impressed with Mr. Batali's 13 in Wooden Spoon, the finish was rougher than I would have expected and the bowl of the spoon is very shallow. I took some fine grade sandpaper to the spoon and my Dremel to the bowl. I really feel they should have deepened the bowl a little more, it works fine for me know and with the heft of the spoon even with the removal of about a 1/4 of an inch it still mixes up dough with out of thought of cracking or snapping, thus the three versus five stars. The slotted and flat have been big hits without the need for any adjustments, apart from a little fine grade sanding.

Customer Review: bowl not as deep as it looks
Summary: 2 Stars

It's an alright wooden spoon. It is large, but the bowl could be a LOT deeper. I am actually considering getting out my router or Dremmel and deepening it myself! The wood is plenty thick for it to be twice as deep. It really only holds about the same amount as my medium sized cheapo wooden spoons. Bummer. I was just expecting so much more!

Customer Review: A true Italian spoon.
Summary: 5 Stars

I honestly don't understand why the other review gave it one star.

As any italian knows, if the spoon doesn't break when mama gives you a smack on the hand, it's the right spoon to make the spaghetti sauce.

Also beech wood's natural oils resists the acidity of tomato sauce and last longer b/c of it.
