Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Margaritaville DM1000 Frozen Concoction MakerCustomer Review: WOW! Summary: 5 Stars
I had my eye on a "KEY WEST" model of the frozen concoction maker for about a year now. I think I read every review out there, mostly good but a few were not happy. I AM ECSTATIC OVER IT!!!! This thing is a monster of a machine. I took it to Bristol to the races last month and it was running constantly. Have not had one problem thus far. My daughters are always asking for me to make them something in it. The wife who is not much of a drinker has taken a likening to some concoctions as well. No lumps of ice, always a consistent texture to every drink made in it. Clean up has been a breeze. The only problem I have had was my own doing, I forgot to empty the melted ice reserve and had a water overflow, but after a few "tequila slushies" you tend to not think of it. I would recommend this machine to ANYONE who enjoys a cool icy drink. Simple to use, If you are using "premixed" mixers (alcohol already in the mix) you need to add some extra spirits, it tends to weaken the drink due to adding ice to the mix.
But one thing I learned the hard way is to make your friends bring their own spirits! They want to bring mixers and mooch off of your bar stock....(at least that is what my friends try to do.)

I got this Frozen Drink Maker/Dispense and could not be happier. You get what you pay for. If you want a handsome piece of ice shaving, frozen drink making, tailgate conversation starter social centerpiece, then this is for you.....especially if you have an outdoor bar and you like to entertain. This quite possibly is not for you if you are happy with pulling out a bland old blender that you got as a wedding gift 10 - 15 years ago, complete with plastic buttons and plastic pitchers, and all you want is a cold frozen drink. This is not for you if you make your frozen drinks with dumbed down pre-fabricated mixes that you can buy at your local convenience store and you add bottom shelf rum and tequila made straight from the feet of the local natives. This is for you if you can read a recipe, add fresh fruit juices, get good mid to high grade liquor for a taste explosion, and enjoy adding the umbrella to every frozen concoction that you create. I am not saying a regular blender can't make a good frozen drink. I made my share in my college dorm, coincidentally with that aforementioned cheep booze, however I am older then that now and this is more my speed.
Customer Review: This thing rocks the house Summary: 5 Stars
We were skeptical when we bought this. But from the first round of frozen mixed drinks that we made, we were converts. They come out awesome. No more cheap-tasting, over-powering drink mixes loaded with corn syrup and artificial flavors. With a little research and experimentation, we've figured out great recipes for a bunch of different drinks, using fresh fruit and/or fruit juices, plus modest amounts of agave as a sweetener when called for. Time and again our guests have raved about how good the drinks are, and how much better they are compared to what they've had in bars and restaurants.
We've made non-alcoholic smoothies as well. They've turned out better than what we've ever bought in any smoothie place. It's great to be able to use only the freshest non-frozen fruit and other ingredients and to control how sweet they turn out (we never added any sugar or other sweeteners to our smoothies).
The unit appears to be fairly sturdy. After a couple of dozen occasions, with multiple rounds of drinks made each time, the unit's still going strong.
Great purchase. Consume responsibly.
Customer Review: Do you drink Frozen Margs Weekly? If yes, read on. Summary: 4 Stars
The Margaritaville DM1000 Frozen Concoction Maker is a wonderful product and a near must for every Parrothead and Parrothead wanta be. The Frozen Concoction Maker (FCM) makes a GREAT Margarita. The instruction manual and recipe book are easy to follow and make operation a breeze. The manual controls allow you to add additional ice if needed to make your Frozen Margarita a little more frozen. This was our experience, but the FCM is easily equipped to handle this task. The FCM is a heavy duty unit - it's going to last. If you drink Margs a couple of times a week you'll appreciate its rugged dependability - when you need "help hanging on". However, the FCM does have a flaw. The pitcher (IMHO) is smallish and only holds about 2 glasses if you follow the directions and if your Marg glasses are larger than the standard restaurant glasses. When entertaining, this makes for a lot of time in front of the FCM. However, push the envelope and add a little more juice, experiment with the recipes and you will be rewarded with the best Marg this side of that mythical place who's name adorns this wonderful unit.
Customer Review: Great Margarita Maker Summary: 4 Stars
I have used this machine 3 times since purchasing it. Once when everyone wanted to have different flavor Margaritas. This was not a lot of fun since someone had to be the mixer and bar tender and make ONE drink each time for each individual. Nice to be able to do this, but, very time consuming. The next time I tried to talk everyone into just one type of drink, that way I could make 3 drinks each time and pour them out into everyone's glass since it was the same. Worked a bit better, but, still not perfect. The third time, I poured the mixings into small glasses ahead of time and this helped a bit.
Another thing to mention is that the concoction maker leaked some during use and was very messy to use. I guess that is the same for every bar and bar tender, but, you may want to lay out a large cloth or something to try to keep it cleaner.
Even though I mentioned these few things, I still highly recommend this and it does make great tasting drinks. Wish they had a more extensive list of drinks for the machine, that would be much better.
