Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Margaritaville DM0500 Bahamas 36-Ounce Frozen-Concoction Maker

Customer Review: Is it wrong to love a machine?
Summary: 5 Stars

I love my margaritaville!!! I can think of 3 things that have improved my quality of love and they are 1 HD TV with a flat screen, 2 the kindle 3. the Margaritaville 500. I live in Vegas which is as you know has a brutal heat during the summer months, with the Margartiaville I am making cold icy drinks that taste as good as a bar for just a fraction of the cost. The Margaritaville helps make summer bearable. Yes it is expensive but if I stay at home and drink instead of spending $14 on drinks at the strip I have paid for the Margartitaville 10xs over.

Before I bought the Margaritaville my wife informed me that we have both a blender and a smoothie maker that do the same job. This may be true but they dont do the same job nearly as good as the Margaritaville, the ice is perfect and easily slides up the straw into my mouth. Go ahead and splurge on the Margaritaville you will not be disappointed. I thought about the more expensive models, but really the 500 does a fantastic job.

Customer Review: My Margaritaville Blender does not rock, it is a rock!
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought it for over $200 almost two years ago at Costco and hardly ever used it. It came with a nice carry bag and ran well the few times that I used it. In all the time I had it I probably used it between 10 and 15 times - not that often. I went to use it recently and it started to shave the ice and then stopped, the ready light started blinking red and it will not do anything now, not shave ice, not blend, nothing. I just got off the phone with Margaritaville people and all they can say is that it is out of warranty and that it is an internal issue, and nothing I'm doing wrong. They will not give me a discount on a new one, only a $25 salt tray... how pitiful. They want me to get the equivalent of mine for $199.... If this is what I can expect after so few uses of the machine, what can I expect if I use a new one more often...I think it's time to look for another drink blender... I am very disappointed as it works well when it actually works but woe to you if you get one with a defect.

Customer Review: Margarita Frozen Drink Maker
Summary: 4 Stars

I ordered this item because I trust Amazon.com to deliver what they promise. I was not disappointed. I read all the reviews on it, both pro and con. The instructions were very clear and it was easy to set up. Some said the ice chute didn't seem very sturdy, but I believe there will be no problem over time with this product holding up. I was pleased with the quality of construction and the ease of making the first round of drinks. It also works well in making non-alcoholic drinks like slushies. My only con is that if you don't use a wide mouth Margarita glass, the pitcher allows some spillover around the sides of the pour spout. Be very careful when you pour. The unit is easy to clean up when ready to put away. Unused ice just melts down into container at the rear of the machine. Just remove it and pour down the drain. No drink mix ever gets into the ice chamber. Rinse out the the pitcher in the sink and let dry. Great machine.

Customer Review: Does what it says, but wasn't for me
Summary: 4 Stars

If your desire is to make 36 oz. of your favorite frozen beverage, this very well may be the device for you. However, if you just want to make, say, 12 oz., it's not so easy. You see, It's programmed to shave the appropriate amount of ice and properly blend 36 oz. of beverage. If you need less, you basically have to do everything by hand, and it's a bit of a pain to get the portions correct. The next model up (DM1000) will allow you to choose between 12, 24, or 36 oz., but it costs at least
$50 more. Due to that, and the fact that I can make a similarly mixed beverage with the crushed ice from my freezer and a normal blender, I decided to return this device and not purchase another.

Another thing to keep in mind is the height of this device. It's 19 inches tall, and may not fit under your counter, or anywhere convenient, for that matter. And the next model up is even taller!

Customer Review: Great Ice Shaver and Mess Maker
Summary: 1 Stars

This machine looks attractive and is formidable in size. The pitcher has a typical 36 oz capacity as is clearly indicated on the side of the vessel. After pouring 24 oz of liquid in the pitcher, I hit the auto blend button and the machine began depositing that frozen concoction all over the counter. A second, more restrained, attempt using a 6 oz can of frozen daquiri mix and 6 oz of rum produced another sticky overflow situation. A third attempt to prepare the same 12 oz liquid mix using manual control of the blender proved that you could only get 4 drinks "cleanly" out of the device by stopping midway in the blending process, pouring half the contents of the pitcher into the 4 glasses, and then continuing the blending process through a second pass to get enough to fill the 4 glasses. Any blender that works like this can hardly be called a "party machine."
