Customer Review: Great Machine! Better Than Just A Blender!

I got the Margaritaville DM0500 Frozen Concoction Maker as a gift for Fathers Day. I thought what a waste of money we already have a KitchenAid KSB5WH 5-Speed Blender, White that we use to make margaritas. I was wrong. This machine makes fantastic frozen margaritas. And it makes better tasting frozen drinks, because of the ice shaver, than even a high quality blender like the Kitchen Aid Ultra Power. I love the automatic setting of the Bahama the best. You load your ice and alcohol into the machine and press the green button and it automatically shaves and blends and shaves a little more and blends fast and slow until it makes the perfect margarita. There is also a rocker switch to blend/shave manually but I never use it. I also love all the little design touches on the machine with the little palm trees painted on the machine. I use the machine so much that for Christmas I got the travel bag for the machine. However, as much as I love the machine it's claims of restaurant quality margaritas at home falls short. The only way to create restaurant quality frozen drinks is with a commercial slushy machine like the Bunn 34000.0010 15.1 L Black Gourmet Ice Machine - Model ULTRA-2 PAF. This is what most restaurants use to make frozen concoctions. I know because I rented one for my wedding and investigated buying one. However, they are not practical for home use as they are designed to make frozen concoctions in 20 gallon batches.Customer Review: Great Choice over the DM1000 and DM2000

I picked up the DM0500 model after some extensive shopping around for one of the Margaritaville blenders. This one doesn't hold as much ice as the others but it holds enough for one pitcher worth of drinks. It also doesn't have the fancy buttons that the others have that denote "mudslide," "daiquiri," or "Margarita"(I've heard there is little difference in these settings).
That is the main difference between this model and the others. It had the standard shave only/ blend only switch and a start button( more on that later).
The blender itself is very nice it has some great artistic accents like behind the pitcher on the machine is a metal engraving of a palm tree and a sea plane. The construction is easy and it works right out of the box. All you have to do is attach the ice hopper and you're finished.
Some of the negatives though are that the metal ice chute (that's what I call it) shifts up and down so that it fits perfectly and tightly to the pitcher which is nice except that it doesn't seem like it is extremely sturdy but it hasn't broken yet so I guess I should report that if it does.
The Start button is nice it makes a drink about the consistancy of a smoothie from smoothie king. I enjoyed it alot. The ice hopper shreds ice like a dream and the seal on the top if fantastic. I noticed some people complaining that it spilled and I have had no such problem.
I would highly recommend this model over the others for it's reasonable price and great offerings.

Our goal in buying the Margaritaville was to be able to make all kinds of icy drinks. It does this very well. What we discovered is that it can also be used to make snow cones.
There are two components. An ice shaver that will turn ice cubes into small shavings, and a blender. The ice shaver sends the crushed ice into the blender for processing. Each side has it's own switch to operate them independently, or there is a button that will turn your concoction into a slushie.
Although the product is made for personal use, it appears to be made well enough to make multiple drinks at a time.
It is a good idea to clean it when you use it, so be careful wiping out the top portion; or you will get cut on the ice shaver. Otherwise, it it not too hard to clean.
If you put in too much ice compared to liquid, the blender will freeze and stop working. It does not seem to hurt the motor, but you have to finish mixing by hand. So make sure you mix up the stuff you put in the blender before you put in too much crushed ice.
We have used our machine to make margaritas, shaved ice with fresh lime squeezed over it, and various fruit smoothies using fresh and canned fruit. It has been a great way to get through a hot summer.

I wanted to get a frozen drink maker. The ability to make shaved ice and do powerful blending is key to success in making great frozen drinks. After doing considerable research, I found this item which was well reviewed. I purchased it because of the combination of features and price. While it is the most basic of the Margaritaville models, it offers sufficient features and capacity for most home use. Other higher level models incorporate features that have questionable value for the money. These include a drink size (number) selection knob, a drink type selection switch and larger capacity ice chambers and pitchers. Unless you really need a larger drink making capacity (at one time), those other features are insignificant. They all (including the Bahamas) include a manual switch to shave ice and to blend. It's likely that you might want to fine tune the ice/blending anyway. The unit has substantial construction, appears well crafted/assembled and looks good. It is easy to use and clean. The only minor issue is that the shaved ice is a bit grainier than I would have preferred. But, all in all, this is an excellent machine that creates great frozen concoctions quickly.Customer Review: A perfect product.

I ordered it, it came on the day promised.
I opened the box and out of the box it was sparkling clean and gorgeous!
I've made smoothies, drinks, and even just shaved ice for water. There isn't a single complaint I have about this machine.
You know how most standard blenders claim to be "ICE CRUSHING" but to no avail you put ice in, yo get all excited to crush ice and it gets stuck or you get large chips/chunks that arent suitable for mixed drinks or smoothies (especially with a straw).
This blender not only delivers REAL LIVE SLUSHY quality shaved ice, effortlessly but it is SUPER easy to clean.
I know Im babbling, but trust me. This blender is worth EVERY cent i paid. I make smoothies EVERY SINGLE DAY
so now I save money. I don't have to go to Jamba, Robecks or any other commercial juice chain to get the smoothie of my choice. instead I buy the ingredients and make them myself, whenever however i want.
Lose the skepticism and buy this machine.
I was gona get the larger ones...but Ive served as many as 12 people with this machine and there wasnt a wait at all.
