Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Magic Bullet Express 17-Piece High-Speed Blender Mixing SystemCustomer Review: Overall, worth the money Summary: 4 Stars
I bought the Magic Bullet system from an infomercial, the pay $100, get 2 deal (of course they forget to mention the super-expensive shipping). The shipping took a week. So, was it worth it? It all depends on what you are planing to use it for.
Worth it: Once you get used to pulsing and tapping, the blender makes great smoothies and frozen drinks easily crashing even large chunks of ice. Whipping up deserts, eggs for omlets, mixing batter or pudding all takes seconds. We've also made apple sauce, guacamole (came out well, not too mushy), hummus, deviled eggs and all sorts of sauces--all came out beautifully. Oh, and flavored cream cheese--we made berry and wallnut+honey cream cheese and it was the best we've ever had. Cleaning is a snap, too. The juicer is ok--it crushes the fruit well, but leaves some juice in the pulp. Typically, juicy fruit works fine--we've made pineapple/orange juice and it came out well. However, apple cider was challenging--we used five apples to get a half glass of juice.
Not worth it: if you are planning to mostly use it as a food processor. Even using the tap technique it purees the food too quickly. I know that some reviewers said that they managed to make good salsa and chicken salad. Perhaps, it takes a special talent, but we couldn't make it work.
Despite that, we are really happy with ours and plan to buy a couple as holiday gifts.
Customer Review: A nice little unit, but not as good as advertised on TV. Summary: 4 Stars
I have been using the Magic Bullet for about one week. It makes great iced frozen drinks. It is easy to clean. Make sure that you use small pieces of ice and whatever you want to chop or grate. The unit will bog down and stop if you jam too many things in it. All of the receipies in the book may have to be modified as you learn to use it. The juice attachment is just okay, but does not produce a lot of juice. Overall it is a nice unit for chopping, mixing, crushing, and grating. Remember, do not use big chunks of items or ice. If it locks up, just add more liquids or remove portions until it mixes a little. If it jams up for more than a few seconds, stop and check or the unit motor may get damaged. This is a great drink mix machine. It does a good job with frozen drinks. This would be perfect for a single person or a small family. For the $99.00 price I paid, it is not a bad deal for what you get. If you are buying it just for the juicer, I would buy an Omega brand juicer instead. I found it to work the best when mixing solid with liquid items. You are going to have to do a little experimenting to get your items right. I would say that this is great party mixer for small to medium portion items such as dips, finger foods, and for mixing drinks. It's worth getting if you don't have a mixer and food processor already. Easy to clean.
Customer Review: Good for some things Summary: 3 Stars
I got the Magic Bullet as a wedding gift a few days ago and have so far succeeded in making guacamole and milkshakes (both of which it does very well). I had read online reviews on this product beforehand and wasn't surprised when it turned my vegetables for quesadillas into mush (instead of nice, chopped pieces as advertised). I anticipated this, however, and have already registered for a mini food processor.
The big advantages of this product are its small size and dishwasher safe capability. *SIDE NOTE* There are three rubber stoppers inside the bullet that to blades slide on top of. One of these stoppers came loose and milk leaked on the kitchen counter. I'm lucky it didn't short-circuit the motor! So be sure these stoppers are clamped firmly in place.
Overall, it's not as great as the infomercials dictate, but it's a nice thing to have nonetheless. The four party glasses are terrific, too. You don't have to scoop anything out because it's all ready. Additionally, color-coded rims remind people's which glass is theirs.
I gave the Magic Bullet three stars because the product still needs work (especially with its chopping factor), but if you receive it as a gift, I don't think you'll be terribly disappointed. In any event, my friends were impressed. And the milkshakes were great - yum, yum!
Customer Review: A Bad Product With a Great Infomercial Summary: 2 Stars
I totally agree with the person who wrote the review below mine. When I first saw this infomercial, I started cracking up. I mean the people were so funny, butwere terrible actors. They made up a bunch of funny lines for these people to say. Berman's hilarious. He does not fit in with any of those people at ALL! He bald and has sidesburns. Everyone else there, besides the lady with the cigarette, seems like they're rich or something and are like married. Berman seems like he lived on like a farm. That's why he probably hates brocolli so much. As for the product, I'd rather just buy a cheap blender and a jucier. I've seen other reviews people have left, and most of them say that the magic bullet left mush after they used it or didn't do things as it had showed on the commercial. Like in the commercial, you see Mick and Mimi making this thing look so easy. I'd probably buy this thing if I knew it work. I'd actually want to try to use it just for fun to see how it worked. But it seems like one of those products that seems to good to be true, and will take more the 10 seconds to use. I think it's a waste of 100 bucks right there. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because of the infomercial. I wanna see another one with those exact people in it. The magic bullet one was so funny! My two stars go out to you!
Customer Review: Does a few things very well Summary: 4 Stars
Probably the best thing I can say in favor of the Magic Bullet is that I sold mine when I bought a full-size food processor, consistently regretted getting rid of it, and just recently bought another one.
It will never equate to a full size food processor, but it doesn't have to. It serves a different purpose. The Magic Bullet is ideal for small chopping and grinding jobs that it isn't worth dirtying the big processor for. It really is pretty easy to clean, and definitely much easier to clean than a food processor.
Like any product sold on TV, it does not really live up to all of the claims it makes. Some models are sold with a juicer and a blender, both of which I found to be utterly useless. It's also not great for anything too thick, as the motor is a little weak. For example, I bust out the food processor for a big batch of guacamole, though I have made it in the Magic Bullet before; it just requires a little more effort in the form of lots of shaking. I also think the party mugs are pretty silly and useless.
Overall, I love having it for small chopping, grinding, and mixing jobs. It's easy to clean, and the fact you can microwave the cups is very handy for some tasks (it makes excellent garlic butter!) It doesn't replace a food processor for me, but is a good addition.
