Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Magic Bullet Express 17-Piece High-Speed Blender Mixing SystemCustomer Review: !!!!!!!!NOT FOR VEGETABLE 1 Stars
Allright...this Magic Bullet might be good for certain things such as smoothies etc., but mine could definetly NOT handle vegetable juicing!!! There is simple not enough POWER or should I say "JUICE" in this machine to handle my simple wish of a carrot-beet-apple-ginger vegetable juice...
My first experiment with the MAGIC BULLET was for the above mentioned juice. Carrots kept getting stuck to the blades, so did the beats AND the apples (JEEZ) and then the motor over-heated and simply stopped! BAH! It mushed up my vegetables into some sort of baby food...but no juice! The advertisers claim that you NEVER need a knife anymore....COME ON NOW....that's a JOKE!!!
The next day I followed an excact recipe given in the book for salsa. It was running pretty smooth, but the end result looked more like mush (again) than healthy looking salsa. And then I believe a small tomato got stuck to the blade and the rubber part on the motor broke and I had small black rubber pieces all over the kitchen. The motor overheated and BROKE!!!!
Do your research before investing your money on cheap junk. Champion, Juice Man and the Vita Mix are great quality...more expensive, sure, but why waste money on cheap quality - crap - as the Magic Bullet??? But to be fair and reading reviews from other happy customers (or are they being paid by the company???) , you might still want to give it a try. I DON'T RECOMMEND IT!!! STAY AWAY!!!
Please...don't even think about using this bullet for vegetable juicing. I wish my Magic Bullet had lasted a little bit longer so I at least could have tested other recipes...but hey... I am still wondering why I feel so POWERless after this purchase??
Customer Review: Great for Baby and Toddler Food Summary: 5 Stars
This is by far the one and only As seen on TV product that I think actually works. I never thought to give it a chance until I saw it recommended in one of my parenting magazines (I don't remember which one). I had to make a return to a company and saw they carried it, so thought I'd give it a shot, as it was nearly an even exchange and I could always return it, if needed.
I have a 15 month old who refuses to eat finger foods--it's as though he has a "texture thing," and those stage 3 baby food jars are getting REALLY expensive and I'm looking to save money, especially since our family will be expanding in the next few months. So, this is why I bought it--to try to make acceptable food for my little boy.
Granted, I never need a blender, mixer, coffee grinder, or even a food processor. The only blender we have, I bought to make diet shakes (back a few years ago) and it was so big and had so many parts that it has just ended up as clutter in a cabinet somewhere.
So, my first test. I put some pineapple into the small cup (perfect size for a toddler)and tapped the top just a couple of times. It came out great! It was the perfect consistency! If I needed it pureed, I would've just left it going, but I needed it to be a little chunky, so only tapped it twice. Then, I just spooned out the food into his bowl and rinsed the cup and blade with warm water--that was it!
It's the same process with dinners and lunches. I just take what we're having and tap the top 2 or 3 times to blend the food yet keep it chunky. It comes out wonderfully.
So, for what I need it to do, it's a great little machine and I recommend it for small tasks such as this.
Customer Review: Multi-Purpose Savings -- Glad I've Got It Summary: 4 Stars
I was on my way out the door to buy a coffee grinder (yes, I'm one of those Gourmet types who wants his coffee freshly ground just seconds before the hot water hits it,) when my roommate said "Hey, we've got a Magic Bullet up in the cabinet. I think it grinds coffee." Money's money, and I've never been entirely thrilled with any of the grinders I've owned, so I gave it a shot. The twin low-profile blades do the job nicely, and the small container makes it easy. I put in the tablespoons of bean I want, screw the cover on, push down a couple times, and *I* have control over how much my coffee beans get beat up. I can see them inside the clear container, so it's perfect every time.
Then there's the morning "smoothie." A few strawberries, some ice cubes, a little milk or almond milk, 1/3 to 1/2 a banana (more if you're not diabetic or watching your weight.) Add protein powder as you prefer, or even oatmeal (so you can get the benefits without the taste and cooking.)and blend it for about 15-20 seconds. (Press down, then turn slightly and it stays on without pressing down.) Voila, very tasty breakfast drink.
I haven't gotten to the juicer, as I am diabetic and most of that would be too much sugar for me. If it had a slicer for salad making I'd be stoked, though.
The downside? It's unbelievably loud. I mean, jets flying 50 feet overhead loud. I really like it, but am thinking of building it its own soundproof cabinet. Also, I finally messed up a sealing ring in it, and when I go to the buythebullet.com site, there is no specific Parts section. Rather, you write them first, and wait for them to write back... but that is probably true of most any product.
Customer Review: Disappointed Summary: 1 Stars
My roommate and I received our "Bullet" from a friend who had ordered the "2 for 1" deal and graciously gave us his extra. We were ecstatic to have one of our own as he had been whipping up mixed drinks for us and they turned out great (albeit that was all I saw him use it for). We used ours a couple of times- first I tried the 'omelet' recipe and ended up with (as many other reviews said) large chunks on the outside and onion slush in the center.... the frozen drinks did turn out well- until we had it about a week and it stopped working - or rather instead of turning the blades started to shred the black nubs on the bottom of the blades that attach to the base- you can hear it 'wanting to work' but all you end up with is shredded bits of black plastic... doesn't seem safe... so we put it away for awhile and I tried it out again last week- same thing so I called the customer service number and before I could explain anything they wanted to know what card it was ordered on- it was a GIFT- how am I supposed to know??? Then they asked for the phone number that it was ordered on- again, I'm not sure which number my friend gave them, I told the rep. the number that I have for the said friend but apparently it 'wasn't the right one' after that I knew I wasn't getting very far and I was told to call back when I have the right info to give them- I can ask my friend which card he ordered it on and to which phone number but it doesn't seem very professional to me for them to expect people to do that for items they receive as a gift- at any rate we were highly disappointed in our bullet- it would be great IF IT WORKED, our friend doesn't seem to have a problem with his so that earns 1 star at any rate....
Customer Review: Not Exactly Magic, But Pretty Good Anyway Summary: 4 Stars
I went looking for a mini grinder to grind flax seed and settled on the Magic Bullet. Others I looked at were designed such that the motor housing would get dirty from the grinding. Even those that supposedly protected the housing left some opportunity for things to fall into the housing. The Magic Bullet never brings the motor housing into contact with the food (unless you don't secure the blade cap to the cup sufficiently well, of course!). As a flax seed grinder, the Magic Bullet is perfect. Being able to grind a small quantity, attach a shaker lid, and immediately use the ground flax is wonderful.
My family and I have used the Magic Bullet for other things, too. We tried grinding sausage for pizza, but found that it made a paté. We tried grinding onions, but found that it created a mushy onion goo. We ground hard cheeses like parmesan with terrific results. It mixes powered drinks and smoothies perfectly, however.
In our experience, the Magic Bullet is great for pureeing and blending, and for grinding hard foods, but it doesn't work well for grinding soft foods.
Cleaning the Magic Bullet couldn't be easier. Everything that comes in contact with the food goes right into the dishwasher.
The only problem we've had with our Magic Bullet in the nine months we've had it is that one of the blade bases likes to chew up O-rings. (The other base has never had a problem with the O-rings.)
You may be wondering whether I would recommend the Magic Bullet. I recommend it conditionally. It depends upon what you want it to do for you. We thought enough of it that my husband gave one to his parents for Christmas last year.
