Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Magic Bullet Deluxe 22 Piece SetCustomer Review: A good time and space saver if you take care of it Summary: 4 Stars
This item was purchased for us as a wedding present. I have wanted one since my mom got one. For the cost and for what it does it saves you the space of buying all of these:
1. Coffee grinder
2. Blender
3. Spice grinder
4. Margarita maker
5. Mixer
If you live in the proverbial 10x10 1 butt kitchen the counter space saved alone makes it wise investment. If you are a gadget freak that loves items that can multitask, again this product is for you.
There are some caveats. This item is obviously made in China(like most everything else you buy in the kitchen that you don't spend a boat load of money on). So you probably don't want to overload the item with heavy things. My mom did and ruined hers. The best way to take care of it is to assume the motor is a piece of crap like pretty much every small appliance made in China and actually run it for less time than the manufacturer recommends--I never run mine longer than 5 seconds at at time and neither does my mother-in-law who has had hers for 4 years and it still works solidly. When crushing ice for instance, stop and start off and on every 2 to 3 seconds and give it a good shake--otherwise it will burn out. That is why I gave the item 4 stars instead of 5--the motor is loud and just not that strong but it's better than your run-of-the mill cheap blender do the size and added functionality. Item works best if you use liquids in whatever you're grinding unless you're grinding spices or coffee with your grinder attachment. And again the rule-of-thumb never run it longer than 5 seconds at a time.
The dishwasher-safe storage is an nice touch also as is the fact that they are microwaveable.
Customer Review: &%$# Summary: 1 Stars
look, i worked as a cook for a few years, wich means im compitent enough to say . . . this thing is terrible
1) The top locks down on the base very easily, i think for the infomercial they had a version that didnt lock, its the only explanation, when i say it locks down, i mean it clicks into place and wont shut off, by the time you get the top off everything is puree'd, either that or nothing happens at all, which is just as likely.
2) It either kills everything instantly, or does close to nothing at all. Basically, if you have a blender, you got this product with more options (varying speeds for instance).
I bought this at a huge retail outlet, im glad, their return policy is famous.
Ok, here is a fact. This product is horrible. Don't trust me, read back a little. This last month you see some great outstanding reviews, before the last month, there all 1 or 2 stars. I sense something fishy going on.
If you have a blender, don't bother with this . . . blenders are far better. If a blender can't do it, neither can this product. If you want to make shakes, smoothies, or anything that turns to mush, this will work i suppose, but for FAR less money you can buy a decent blender and do the same thing. For everything else on the infomircial this product is absolutely terrible. If you look back at the other reviews you will see a lot of motors burning out. Another great product feature. Don't trust these last few reviews, like i said it smells fishy.
My wife saw this on tv and wanted it, even i thought it looked good. This magic bullet is magically going back to the store from which i bought it in record time, about 72 hours from purchase to return.
Customer Review: Not for frozen items Summary: 1 Stars
I have always loved the infomercial and was excited when I final got this product. But it is awful. It definitely can't handle anything frozen. While trying to make a smoothie in the blender I ended up (after blending/pulsing for over a minute huge chunks of ice and strawberries. I found the only way to make it work is to first put in the ice to pre-chop it and microwave my frozen fruit. These steps of course make it less smoothie and more fluid.
Another thing I have attempted to make were the omelets. I first tried it on my own but nothing got chopped and the blade kept getting stuck. So then I followed one of the recipes given exactly and the same thing happens. Anything solid ends up stuck around the blade on the bottom. Shaking doesn't help, sometimes pounding it on the counter to get the food free but usually I had to actually open it up and manually unclog the blade 3 or 4 times just for an omelet.
I was making a cheese cake and needed to crush graham crackers for the crust. Not exactly what this is for but I thought it should work. But of course not! It took the same process of manually cleaning the blade several times and finally the entire blade shut down and would not start again. (this was only the 6th or 7th time I used it and the motor stopped.) Needless to say I had to borrow a mini-chopper and that took about 5 seconds to take of the job with no sticking problems. I do have to say that the manual does say that the motor might stick and you have to unplug it to reset the motor, I didn't realize when I bought it this would be a common problem. I may now pass it along to family members to help debunk their ideas of it being great to. One use should do it. :(
Customer Review: MaGiC! Summary: 5 Stars
I received this for Mother's Day three years ago. I had been whining that my blender was not making baby food fine enough. I was pleasantly surprised at the Magic Bullet. Not only did it make quick work of homemade babyfood, but it also would grind brown rice into a powder for making rice cereal. After seeing that, I thought, "I wonder if I can grind wheat in this thing?" It grinds wheat just as well as my Magic Mill! It is actually great for small quantities of wheat. You can crack wheat in it by just pulsing a little, or mill it into a nice flour for waffles. I wouldn't do large batches for bread in it because it would take a while. But dried corn turns into a lovely cornmeal in this small, compact machine.
Another thing I use my Magic Bullet for is onions. My family does not like onions in their food, so sneaky Mom here grinds them into a soup before adding them so we have all of the flavor and none of the texture.
Magic Bullet is a life saver in our kitchen. I use the individual mugs to make sorbet desserts by grinding frozen berries with a splash of skim milk and a little Splenda.
I probably use the Magic Bullet 5x/week. It runs just as well as the day I received it. At a price of $65 I would have given this thing a year, but third year and still going strong. I read many reviews saying that it gave out after x-years of using it. If you are looking for something to last a lifetime, buy a VitaMix. If you are looking to grind huge batches, I recommend the same. If you are looking for a space-saver/time-saver that is easy to clean up and is relatively inexpensive, the Magic Bullet is a great product!
Customer Review: Doesn't Work as Advertised Summary: 1 Stars
I'm surprised that this item gets any good reviews at all. I purchased the Magic Bullet kit that came with the juicer attachment in addition to everything mentioned here for the 25 piece kit. I saw the ad on TV that made it look so easy to make all this stuff like salsa, hummus, and icy shakes. That is a laugh!
First, my husband tried to make his morning smoothie using the blender attachment. One cup of frozen blueberries, one cup of soy milk, and 2 scoops of protein... put it in the blender and.... nothing. It won't blend past the first inch or two beyond the blade. Had to add more fluid and blend in the pulse mode for about 2 minutes to finally finish blending. NOT EASY.
Then I tried to make the salsa using their recipe. It would not chop the onions and it over blended the tomatoes so I had smushy tomatoes with oversized onion chunks. NOT EASY OR TASTY.
Finally, since I purchased this model because it could make smoothies, salsa AND juice, I tried the juicer with some carrots. Just simple right? Well, it blended up the carrots but produced no juice.
I am afraid this item is not worth the shipping cost I paid to have it sent to me. We will have to stick with our metal Oster blender for smoothies and a good old knife and cutting board for making salsa. A friend offered to give me her old juicer that works but is in the closet. Hubby says you get what you pay for. In this case I got less than I paid for.
I'm posting this review on all the Magic Bullet offers here on Amazon so people can at least know that it doesn't work as advertised.
