For the review that complained that she did a load a few days later w/ the same nuts there is a reason they smelled. You are suppose to do the loads all in one day and then compost the soapnuts.
Here is the equation:
"For a cold water wash, use 3-5 shells and re-use up to four times in the same day. For a warm water wash, use 2-3 shells and re-use up to two times in the same day.
The shells are same-day reuseable -- once the shells have been moistened, they begin to naturally break down. If the moist shells are kept for use on a subsequent day, you may find that they have become moldy. Discard the shells in your garden mulch pile."

I bought a bag of these things as a tester for 5 loads & let me tell ya, these little puppies do the trick!
They clean, & leave a nice fresh scent to the laundry & to think these bad boys grow on trees. Lol!
I'm now a loyal user. I highly recommend getting as much of these as possible. Though the little bag does tend to untie itself towards the end of the wash cycle - it doesn't fully loosen up & allow the soap nuts to fall out so you should be alright. Also, if you use cold water, you can extend the life-cycle of the soap nuts to about 6 or 7 loads.

I love the way that these soap nuts clean clothes. However, I was totally unimpressed by the way that they arrived. They looked all dry and black and just plain nasty. They also smelled really rancid upon arrival. I will purchase from the organic retailer next time and hope for a better outcome. I know that this is not how these are supposed to look/be, and have heard several other people complain about Maggie's soap nuts being like this too.Customer Review: From Nuts to Soap

Wonderful! A 5+ Star rating would be more accurate.
Even with our rock-hard water this stuff cleans and softens.
I've been making the liquid version and using it for clothes, dishes (with the addition of a bit of degreaser) as well as general household cleaning.
It has suddenly become available nearby (for less than the online price) so I've been buying it locally.
A great product.

I bought the sample product of the soap nuts and I absolutely loved them. They are so great. They make all of our clothes so soft and takes all smells out. I have 4 boys and they can dirty some clothes and the soapnuts got them all clean. I have since ordered more, but in a larger quantity. A must buy for someone who is wanting to be GREEN and who may have sensitive skin. They are great. Can't say enough about them.
