Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Made By Humans, Eco Staple Free Stapler, Desktop Stapler, Black (452)

Customer Review: An excuse for lazy people to call themselves green.
Summary: 5 Stars

First off, let me tell you what I hate about staplers. You have to buy staples. You have to store extra staples. You have to load staples. Staplers jam. You waste staples. You have to pull bent and ugly looking staples out of papers. You have to pry and wrench bent and jammed staples from the stapler. As a college student, I need a stapler to put those multi-page papers together, but smaller staplers get bent and torn up in my rugged backpack full of books and candy wrappers, and a small box of staples quickly becomes a backpack full of metal splinters. So there's why I was behooved to order myself a staple-free stapler. The way it works is that a cookie-cutter sort of blade within will punch a tab in the papers and a slit right next to it. So all in one pump, it punches a tab and folds the tab into the slit and fixes your pages together securely. I have yet to use this stapler in class, but on a day when people are turning in their papers, the guy with the stapler can quickly make some friends. From a green stand-point, I find it nice to not have to waste staples, which is also good economically. Also, I'm much more comfortable letting a child handle it than I would be if they had a regular stapler. All in all, though, it was my inner geek that told me I had to have this unique little gadget, and I am happy!

Customer Review: Pretty good, but not really practical
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this after seeing positive reviews and thinking, "That would be cool to have." Before I go any further, let me say that this item works. The only reason I gave it four stars is because it's not always the most practical thing to have around. I used this in high school, and usually teachers would tell me to use a regular stapler, because they trusted a normal stapler more. With just a couple papers, say 1-3, it works great. It doesn't come apart at all and the Staple Free Stapler is easy to use. Beyond that, it's not really reliable. One of the nice things about this stapler is that other people will certainly be interested in it. When I started using this product in school, everyone wanted to see it and try it out. I still use it from time to time, but like I said, it's not always practical.

Customer Review: Not worth it
Summary: 1 Stars

I had great expectations for this stapler but it failed the test of practicality. It certainly staples sheets of paper together, but it punches a big hole in it which is very unsightly and hard to remove without causing further damage. It also requires a lot of pressure. It must be seated on a hard flat surface and pushed down very hard. If you are not a rather robust person you can forget it. I was hoping it would work similarly to the old fashion Medina or the Chinese knock-off version called the Eagle. These both crimp the paper with a waffle-like patern that holds multiple sheets together quite well, but still allows you to pull them apart without damaging or mutilating the paper like these new style "punches". Medina and Eagle are out of business.

Customer Review: Great gadget - works as advertised
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this for putting papers together for my sunday school class so I wouldn't have to worry about the small children and staples. I find it works quite well. It does put a very small rectangular hole in the papers which is not a big deal. It does NOT require any more effort or force as other reviewers noted than a regular stapler (however I have the platic one and not the chrome, but I can't imagine it would be just so hard as one reviewer noted...time to hit the gym if this is a workout). My five year old can use it. It seems to work just like a paper punch if you are familiar with those. I think it's great and almost a necessity now at our house. I even thought about getting them for my daughter's teachers.

Customer Review: good idea, needs work
Summary: 3 Stars

I love the idea of this- compact, no waste, no need to replace staples. It works by cutting a little tab out of the papers and looping the tab through a slot made by the initial cut. It's easy to use, and it comes in lots of different colors and designs.

However, it only works to attach a few pages (about 4 thick or 6 normal sheets), and the attachments it makes don't withstand much force at all. So if, like me, you put your papers through a bit of a workout (rereading, shuffling, in and out of bags), you might want to wait for the next model of this "stapler".
