Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of MIU France Stainless Steel Magnetic Knife Holder, 20-InchesCustomer Review: Best I've owned and stylish too Summary: 5 Stars
The first time I saw one of these was when I worked in a professional kitchen. I've had a few over the year since then and honestly don't ever want a kitchen without one. I actually had a half wall built just to put this one on in my current kitchen.
Anwyay, this one is better than average because:
It mounts more securely than average and more easily.
The little round black end is actually a piece of plastic that you can pop out to get at the plaster anchors. Then they are covered again. This is much better than the Wustoff one I used to have that basically hung off the screws on the wall. This way is nice and solid instead of a little wobbly.
Also, the magnet is just the right strength... not to strong. Many bars are too strong, so you almost stab yourself wehn you pull the knife off. Also, some are too weak to hold cleavers. This one is just great.
Also, I thought it might look kinda cheap, but it's really solid and nice. The outer ring is brushed aluminum or steel... not sure. Then it has a chrome center and the black caps. Looks great a stainless appliance kitchen or black stone counters... or both.
Also, this is the only one I could find in sizes as small at 15". If you have a small space, that would be handy too.
Get one. You won't regret it.
Customer Review: great functionality, installation hardware could be better Summary: 4 Stars
I decided to forego a knife block and go with a magnetic strip when my knife collection outgrew my block. Most blocks will hold only 1 chef's knife or santoku, or two at the most. Putting them in a drawer and having the blades bump around each other would make them dull and inconvenient to access. A magnetic strip is ideal, and I love this one. The magnet is strong and the knives don't slip around in any way. You do need to be careful removing them, pivoting on the dull edge as you take the knife away from the strip to avoid having the cutting edge touch the holder. 3 knives with chef-size wide blades and 7 smaller width knives comfortably fit on the bar.
There were no installation instructions whatsoever in the box, but the bar included two walls anchors and screws. I figured out that the black plastic ends push out to access the screws. However, the anchors included with the bar were junk and didn't seem to work with drywall. After trying them unsuccessfully, I substituted my own metal Molly anchors and screws and it's now very secure. It doesn't wobble at all on the wall.
The extra bit of counterspace I have from being able to remove the bulky knife block is a bonus.
I'd definitely buy this again, but the installation hardware problem was really annoying.

For the price, the product is what you would expect--made in China, imperfect but will work for most consumers.
I have several complaints with the proudct. First, the magnet will not hold my stainless steel knives horizontally-only vertically. This is because any knife that is balanced will necessarily adhere to the magnet imbalanced (since you cannot mount it at its median point). Unfortunately, the magnet is not powerful enough to compensate for this imbalance, and the handle slid down (even with a paring knife), resulting in scratches to the blade and a dangerous instability. I have found that you must mount the blades vertically or, alternatively, upside down (underneath a shelf).
Secondly, the mounting screws (included) proved too long for my cabinetry. I had to improvise with shorter screws, although this worked out ok. Anchors were also included. There were two mounting holes. Installation was easy.
Thirdly, the magnet scratched awfully easy, and also scratches the knife. This may or not be a big deal for you. Some customers consider knives a work of art and should go with a bamboo block or knife case instead.
All in all, the product works ok, but there are better magnets out there (but cost more).
Customer Review: Great product Summary: 5 Stars
First let me say that the shipping on this item was insanely fast. I ordered it via standard shipping late Sunday and it was waiting for me by my door when I got home from work on Tuesday. Amazing.
Second, the installation was a breeze. If you are a type-A personality like myself, all you need is a measuring tape, a pencil, a level and a screwdriver (old fashioned or powered, your choice). From start to finish, including cleaning up the plaster dust from pre-drilling the holes, this knife holder took no more than 30 minutes to put up. If you are a little less of a perfectionist, this will take you no time to slap up on your wall.
The magnet seems to be just the right amount of strength. You don't have to wrestle with it to get a knife off, but at the same time you don't have to say a quick prayer every time you are working near it in hopes that a knife doesn't fall off and impale you. I am quite pleased with the magnet.
Finally, I would say that aesthetically, I am quite pleased with its presentation. I have stainless steel and black appliances and this piece matches seamlessly.
Overall, I highly recommend this knife holder and for the money, it honestly cannot be beat.
Customer Review: great item! Summary: 5 Stars
I received this for Christmas(after I asked someone to get it for me!). I had done a little research on them. You can actually spend more than twice as much on one of these so I was a little skeptical about the price. This is excellent. I was glad it came in different lengths. I had a small kitchen so space is at a premium. The magnet is exceptionally strong. I was a little worried about getting one of these because the only place to put it was the wall over my dog's food dish! It holds beautifully. The knives stay put and with bigger knives, it actually takes a bit of pull to get them off the magnet. The installation is easy and holds well to the wall. Very sturdy metal bar. The one I bought was 20" but the usable area is about 18 1/2". (There are two end caps that are semicircle in shape for decoration but do not add to the usable area). I find it has plenty of room for a standard kitchen knife set (with large kitchen knife, bread knife, paring knife etc... a six knife set that you usually get that comes with a block) plus six steak knives. It would fit very nicely with todays kitchens, nice brushed metal surface. Looks much more expensive than it is. Buy this and throw you knife block in the trash!
