Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of MIU France Stainless Steel Commercial Oven Thermometer

Customer Review: Accurate enough, Easy to get water in
Summary: 3 Stars

Pros:
* Decently sized dial
* Hook design is simple and easy to hang on your oven rack
* Tested it in my toaster oven and it matched the dial temp (eventually) most of the time

Cons:
* Got water in it fairly easily so be careful when washing it. Most of the water dripped back out and the rest evaporated by leaving it in the oven at 300 for a few minutes.
* Response time is not the fastest. In my toaster oven it gets to the dial's temperature eventually, ~30 or more seconds after the toaster's heating element has cut off.

I wish it would cost a couple bucks less than $15, since there are other oven thermometers with equal Amazon rating that cost less.

Customer Review: Meets all expectations
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this thermometer to check the temperature of the oven in our gas range. Things were taking too long to cook, and baked goods (breads, rolls, cakes etc.) would start to dry out before they were done in the center. As expected, the oven was 18 - degrees cooler than it indicated on the digital display.

A week later I had a new range, and the indicated temperature was verified by this thermometer perfectly. Whether sitting on the counter showing 68 - degrees (house temp.) or hovering at 500 - degrees when making pizza, this thing is right on the button. It works, and I recommend it to anyone looking for an accurate thermometer that's easy to read.

Customer Review: Made in China? Run.
Summary: 1 Stars

Given that I was in the market for a new oven thermometer, and given that the reviews of most of the available thermometers were less than encouraging, I decided to buy both a Polder and an MIU and test them against a Taylor mercury thermometer.

Right off the bat, the MIU was off by 25 degrees. The Polder was dead on. However, within one day, the Polder was off by 40 degrees. But since they were so cheap, they're not worth returning.

Moral? Save your money and buy a mercury oven thermometer on eBay. They generally go for less than ten dollars and there's no guesswork involved as to their accuracy.

Customer Review: Good but not very durable.
Summary: 4 Stars

Seems to be pretty accurate but I can't give it a full 5 stars because the face has already cracked after just a month of usage. It doesn't seem to affect the thermometer functionality but it's pretty disappointing to think that it's so fragile despite not getting moved around or bumped at all! Maybe it cracked because we use the broiler so often, I don't know ... but we keep it on the lower shelf far away from the high heat of the broiler element so that shouldn't play a role. At any rate, I do think that this is a good thermometer at a good price. Just don't expect great durability.

Customer Review: Does not read correct temperature
Summary: 2 Stars

I bake a lot so I have at least 2 oven thermometers in the oven at any given time, I also use an instant read thermometer. I bought this thermometer because of the big numbers, I wanted something I could just look through the oven window and know the temperature without having to bend down or get a small flashlight to read the numbers. This thermometer was constantly 50 degrees or more off every time and I have used it every day since I bought it. I have never seen an oven thermometer so off before so I would not recommend this item even though I love the big numbers.
