Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of MIU France 7-Piece Stainless Steel Measuring Cup SetCustomer Review: Design flaw Summary: 1 Stars
I have to be harsh here, because measuring cups really are very simple items, and not much should go wrong with them. I have not had any issues with handles breaking off (I have the older version of the set, and they seem to be sturdy).
However, I have a general problem with handles that are welded or glued: such items are more difficult to clean than those with handles that are contiguous with whatever is attached to them. That is the reason why professional tools are designed to minimize food residues getting trapped in creases or where parts are attached to each other (ladles, spatulas, etc.).
In addition, the bottom of these measuring cups are 90 degrees to the walls, which again easily traps the ingredient to be measured, particularly flour.
Agreed, all that is much less of a nuisance in a home kitchen, but to me, it's still a nuisance.
Customer Review: Great set of cups Summary: 5 Stars
These are very well made and the handles are very well attached. It appears that MIU has changed manufactures at least 3 times.
The Good:
Odd sized cups make things very easy.
Thick walls and well attached handles (yes the small cups are a bit thinner than the large but if they were the same thickness they would be unwieldy).
They are accurate.
Handle attachment is very strong. (The plaints about weak handle attachment make me think that MIU changed manufacturers, unless the folks were using the cups as hammers.)
The Bad:
A bit pricey but you get what you pay for; at least in this case.
Fairly heavy.
The smaller cups don't sit upright when empty.
The Ugly:
The grove where the handle meets the cup can be a nuisance to clean; but that's what dishwashers are for.
Customer Review: Excellent Quality - Will last a life time! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought these for myself ~ was tired of using the plastic colored one's (you know the brand). These are wonderful, and so beautiful, that I leave them setting out all the time by my mixer now. I could have purchased All Clad, but then again, why pay alot more when you get just as good of quality, if not better?! Also ~ why have 2 or 3 different sets around to get all the sizes you need.. what is that?! I gave my old sets away, and bought this SEVEN piece set for myself. I am so glad I did.. the extra measuring sizes are worth every penny, no more searching for another cup of a different color to find your size. And with the 3 point construction on the handles, they will outlast me. I plan on letting my little granddaughter own these someday; ...she loves gammaw's great kitchen gadgets and stainless steel goodies.
Customer Review: awesome! Summary: 5 Stars
I hesitated for months to buy these measuring cups. They are more expensive than what i wanted to pay. But I finally grabbed them on amazons 4 for 3 offer. I bought 2 sets, so i always have them handy, without having to wash one before reusing. I love them! I have gone thru many kinds of measuring cups. The plastic ones, and one set that claimed to be stainless steel, but rusted from the dishwasher. These are beautiful and very, very functional. They are shiny, and the measuring amounts are engraved and not going to be washed off, or worn off. They come with holes for hanging which was important to me. These should last for many, many years. Glad i bought them, and wont have to worry about replacing again. Now if only amazon would get miu measuring spoons back in stock!
Customer Review: Nice, complete set, but pricey Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this MIA measuring cups set for two reasons: 1) it's metal, and I prefer the strength, stability, weight and feel of metal to plastic, and 2) it has the elusive 2/3 and 3/4 cup sizes that no one else seems to make. But it is a pricey set! If you cook a LOT and need those two sizes to reduce prep time, then I would definitely go for it. If not, you can get by with a regular set and use your 1/3 and 1/4 cups more often. I do prefer the feel of my Cook's Club metal set to this one because its handles are more comfortable (they're easier to grip...the handles on the MIA set curve up a bit and into your hand), and it has pour spouts on both sides of the cups. But overall, I'd say that busy cooks would probably appreciate this set.
