Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Luminarc Quadro 2-Liter Glass Pitcher with Lid

Customer Review: Very cheesy lid
Summary: 3 Stars

When I first unpacked this jug, I was sure it was entirely plastic, but I guess it's a type of glass. It's very light for glass, doesn't refract light as much as glass usually does, and it has a dull sound when you tap it with a spoon, instead of a ring as glass usually has. Also, the side seams are very pronounced, like a cheap plastic jug. However, it does feel cool and smooth like glass... I'm very curious about the material. Maybe it's just a thinner glass than I'm used to. The lid is made of a thin, brittle plastic, and mine arrived with the lip already broken about a quarter of the way around. It fits extremely loosely to the point where you can rattle it. I ended up forming an aluminum foil skin over the lid to cover the gap, and I guess it will do for iced tea, but I'm far from impressed. On the upside, it does look very pretty full of iced tea, so I gave it 3 stars.

Customer Review: My favorite pitcher
Summary: 4 Stars

This is my favorite pitcher. We had bought one over the summer last year in the local store, but it had an early demise when it was knocked off a counter. We went in search for another one at the store but was told it was a "seasonal item." I enjoy ice tea year round so I needed it replaced and looked on here for it and was happy Amazon carried it.
This is a great value and solid pitcher. It's the perfect weight and so easy to pour with the way that the glass is designed. Sometimes the lid drips when I pour so I just take the lid off when pouring. If you are like me and don't have a dishwasher, a great kitchen gadget to order with it is a bottle brush. Oxo Good Grips Bottle Brush is the one I use and it works well.

Customer Review: Decent pitcher, but spout is an issue
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a decent, reasonably made glass pitcher (really, it's glass). I've made teas in it using boiling or very hot water, depending on the tea, and it's been fine. I can't say I don't worry about putting hot water in it though! Quality is just not what it used to be these days across the board.

I only gave it 4 stars because, as other reviewers have mentioned, it has an awkward spout that can lead to dripping. It's not just a matter of being careful, you have to be extraordinarily precise to avoid a mess (i.e. hold the glass at a particular angle, tilt pitcher at an angle, hold glass to spout etc). Drippage does go down as the pitcher is less full. By around 3/4 full, it's not such a problem. Also, the problem is not related to the lid. I tried taking the lid off, but the problem persisted.

Customer Review: Excellent!
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this pitcher because I refrigerate filtered tap water instead of buying bottled, and I'm trying to live as plastic-free as possible. It holds exactly the same amount of water as my old plastic pitcher (the ubiquitous frosted translucent kind with the blue lid), which is great.
The lid isn't air-tight, but it's definitely good enough for water and tea (it wouldn't be suitable for carbonated beverages). The only thing that I would caution future buyers about is that the opening is a little small. I can fit my medium-sized female hands in, but I think someone with larger hands wouldn't be able to fit their hands in to clean it.

Edit: Some people complained about it dripping when they pour. If you press on the lid with your extra hand while pouring it doesn't do this.

Customer Review: Broke on first use
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this as a replacement for the same exact brand and style glass pticher that I had for over 15 years. Apparently (like Pyrex) they have changed the compostion of the glass that they use and the new glass formula is not the same as it used to be. I had used my old one for years and years to make ice tea, but had to replace it when I dropped it on the floor and it busted. This one- the new one- broke on first use. I had read about this problem in an issue of Consumer Reports about the change in "glass formula". Now I go to second hand stores and look for used, older Luminarc (and Pyrex) items since the old glass is far superior to the new glass. Too bad. Beware of "tempered-glass" products on the market today- they are not the same product as your mother's Luminarc/Pyrex.
