was so excited when i bought a set from costco. they look great and served many purpose such as mixing bowls for salad, soup bowl, and great for separating ingredients when cooking. however, one of the bowls chipped without my knowing (though i was always careful when washing them by hand or loading them in dishwasher (top rack only)); and i cut myself on the chipped edge! i was bummed that i lost a bowl but still thought of the rest as great. well...two weeks later, i used one of the bowls to heat up and melt chocolate for dipping strawberries, pretzels etc (the one that hardens into a shell). and lo and behold...one minute the bowl was fine and the next, the WHOLE bowl cracked!!! and i mean, it CRACKED...shattered into pieces. lucky for us, the glass pieces didn't fly all over the place! bummer bummer. i'm wondering if it was because the chocolate hardened in the bowl?? but i've melted the same chocolate in other containers before and had it hardened...and this has NEVER happened! i'm looking to see if the makers of those pyrex bowls make something similar to these luminarc bowls. i will still obviously use the rest of my luminarc bowls, but i'll be more careful about heating (if i even do that!) anything in it even by microwave!
