Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Lodge Pro-Logic Cast-Iron Aebleskiver Pan

Customer Review: Should have spent less time deciding which to get
Summary: 5 Stars

I should have spent less time deliberating about which Aebleskiver pan to purchase, and just have ordered this one.... I was intimidated by the cast iron, but want to conquer that fear so I am purchasing pans that my kids will be proud of inheriting and using. And, as others have said, the size of these holes are more substantial - bigger isn't necessarily better, but hte finished product does seem to be the 'right' size for us. Altho this is pre-seasoned, I followed advice of someone else here and seasoned it again before using; probably wasn't necessary.

First time I used a recipe from the Williams Sonoma site, but placed the filling after the first turn rather than injecting it into the pancake-ball after-the-fact. Second recipe was from someplace else, using eggs that were separated. Both recipes worked flawlessless, the balls were easy to turn (I used skewers one time, and toothpicks another).

The one thing I did different, that I haven't read about elsewhere, is that I used a silicone brush for 'painting' each cup with butter (rather than just putting a chunklet of butter in each cup, or using a papertowel); this worked well for me.

There's a learning curve for me to know how hot the stove top should be, and when the balls are done inside, but that's just a matter of practice. Get it and enjoy -

Customer Review: My family loves it!
Summary: 5 Stars

I chose this aebelskiver pan for several reasons: it is cast iron and will not bend, it is a good price, and it has larger wells than many other pans. I have a large family, and it would take far too long to make enough aebelskivers for my family if the wells were smaller, as they are on most of the other pans I viewed.

I was not disappointed. This is a no-frills pan, but it works very well, and will last a lifetime. It is pre-seasoned, extremely sturdy, and works well. It heats evenly, and makes good-sized puffs.

This is a no-frills package. It does not come with recipes, a turning stick, or pancake mix, as some of the others do. It does not have a wooden handle or nonstick coating; but wooden handles can break, and nonstick coating will eventually scratch and become ruined; a well-seasoned cast iron pan can last generations. Recipes are available on the internet, a knitting needle makes the perfect turning stick, and pancake mix is easy enough to buy or make. Besides, special recipes aren't even necessary. The aebleskiver pan works great with muffin mix, ordinary pancake mix, buiscit dough, or many other products. You can add stir-ins to make them sweet or nonsweet snacks or meals.

I recommend this pan wholeheartedly. Cooking was never so fun.

Customer Review: Great pan, even for a novice
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm a big foodie, yet I've never had an aebleskiver before. But they looked like a fun, tasty item to make, so when my wife asked if I wanted anything to help her get free shipping, I had her add one of these pans on while it was on sale.

It arrived with basically no instructions, so I went off to the internet for recipes, all of which required ingredients I didn't have. So I noticed that someone had used a Krusteaz pancake mix with a little sugar added...so I decided to wing it.

I rinsed the pan with hot water and scrubbed it a bit (the pan is pre-seasoned with a pretty good coating already), put it on an electric burner to preheat for a bit (it looks like it would work better on a gas stove, but with some preheating time, electric works just fine), added about a teaspoon of oil to each divet, and added some Krusteaz mixture. The first three were pretty much a disaster leaving little chunks behind in the pan. For some reason (more preheating? a little more oil?) the next batch came out better, and the final batch of 3 or 4 came out in perfectly shaped little balls. And EXTREMELY tasty. The pan cleaned up easily, and I've made at least one batch every day since (however I'm almost out of mix now!).

Customer Review: Best aebelskiver pan!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is, hands down, the best available aebelskiver pan on the market. I own the Nordicware pan (which I purchased from a local store because I wanted it in a hurry) but it does not perform nearly as well and the wells are not as deep as those in the Lodgeware cast iron pan Lodge Pro-Logic Cast-Iron Aebleskiver Pan. I purchased this pan as a gift for a friend and then we made aebelskivers as an appetizer for our New Years dinner with friends. The little pancakes browned evenly and cooked thoroughly with some patient turning, making them just crunchy and brown enough to be finger food. The only criticism I have of this item is that it did not come with any recipes, but that problem was easily solved with a search of the Internet as well as the purchase of this little booklet Æbleskiver and More: A Sampling of Danish Recipes. In addition, we tried a traditional blintz filling with a mixture of farmers cheese, egg, and a litle sugar. This worked well for appetizers - not as sweet.

Customer Review: Great Preseasoned Ebelskiver Pan
Summary: 5 Stars

YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS EBELSKIVER PAN. Don't even bother with non cast-iron pans. This is the one you want - trust me, I've tried them all!
This pan is FABULOUS and very well seasoned for being new. If you've ever made ebelskivers, you know that even with a seasoned cast iron pan, you need to add butter every time you pour the batter into the bottom before the batter. It is the nature of cooking whether pancakes or french toast or these! You always oil the pan or spray it before your pancake batter and the same is true with these pastries. The very first time I cooked with it it stuck a teeny bit, the very next batch (and from then on) nothing sticked. I got my technique down and now EBELSKIVERS like up in Solvang are our favorite Saturday morning treat. I top them with powdered sugar and we pick out our :dip: for the week. Last week was raspberry jam. MMMMMMMMM
Make sure you wipe the top of pan off with a paper towel before it gets cold to ease cleaning and to preserve the pan. I would NEVER use soap on these. HAPPPY COOKING!!
PS: Don't forget to catch YouTube for a video from Solvang on the best way to make these wonderful treats!
