While cooking with a dutch oven it is usually necessary to open and stir several times. While using your lid lifter as to keep from getting burned the next quandary is where to set the lid. You don't want it in the dirt, and with all those coals on top it's kinda heavy. This is where the lid stand comes it. It keeps the lid clean and out of the dirt. Sturdy and well balanced. Solid product, as expected. This unit folds, so it takes up less space in transport than my other lid stands. Keeps my lids out of the dirt, and my skillets (and other non-legged cookware) up out of the coals. I use two of them with my griddle, so now I don't need to take along a stove to make pancakes in camp. This is a pretty simple tool but one that is very useful. I host a stone soup party every year. We make soup in a large dutch oven. I have always struggled with finding a place to put the lid while I stirred and served the soup. This solves the problem. It could also work inside as well. Great lid holder to have next to your Camp dutch oven. It keeps my lid from burning the table I set it on. It can also be used with the regular dutch oven to raise up so you can put charcaol under it. I have not used it yet to flip the lid over for eggs and such. I accidently left mine at home recently and felt lost without it. This provides a clean surface on which to place the lid when stirring. I haven't used it yet to flip the lid over and use it as a griddle but am looking forward to doing so. For me, it's as important as the lid lifter.
