Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Lodge Max Temp Handle Mitt, BlackCustomer Review: Could be a bit longer but overall useful, and a good value Summary: 4 Stars
This is just a few bucks, so how can it not be recommended? Because cast iron is so heavy, I like to "choke up" on the handle, holding the handle closer to the pan, and this handle mitt doesn't extend past the handle enough to allow me to hold it where I want without being cautious. If it was longer, I wouldn't worry, but as it is, one needs to be careful. Still, for less than $3 (at this writing), it's nice to be able to put this on the cast iron pan's handle while it's on the stove and leave it there while cooking, rather than grabbing an oven mitt every time I want to grip the handle. This is a useful too, and an exceptional value.
Customer Review: Scorched after very few uses Summary: 3 Stars
This mitt is good at insulating handles from heat... one can hold the skillet comfortably without feeling the heat. I don't think this thing can resist as high temperatures as stated on the product description because mine has already scorched at the edge where it comes in contact with the pan and as a result the fabric is fraying badly. I have never left the mitt in place while cooking, I have only used it to move the pan from the stove to the sink or to lift the pan to serve meals from it so I guess that the black fabric covering the outside of the mitt is not very heat-resistant.
Customer Review: After using this product for about a year now Summary: 5 Stars
After using this product for about a year now, I can honestly say that this is one item I do not regret purchasing. It is just a cloth potholder shaped like a skillet handle. It is made out of good material but it will burn if you place it in or near the flame. Common sense is required. I am happy with this item and will buy another when this one wears out. I see that they have silicone items now that do the same thing and cannot speak pro or con when it comes to them, but I can tell you this product works as good as anyone should need. Don't be scared off by the other reviews.
Customer Review: Can you put a penny next to every picture, Amazon? Summary: 3 Stars
So, this is hilarious. I ordered this handle mitt thinking it was a regular sized oven mitt. When it arrived in the mail, I thought Amazon made some sort of mistake. I mean, I could only get two fingers inside this thing. I actually, for a second, considered trying to use it as an oven mitt--"Maybe I can just buy six more..." Anyways, it'd be awesome if Amazon had a picture of a penny or a regular-sized oven mitt next to every picture so us uncareful readers could get a sense of scale.
P.S. Does anyone want to buy a mini oven mitt for their kid/pet?
Customer Review: NOT too hot to handle... Summary: 4 Stars
I use this mitt on all my iron cookware and have not burned myself. The mitt slips easily onto the handle and allows me to remove cornbread from an iron skillet that baked in a 425 degree oven for 28 minutes. (The mitt is not placed in the oven while baking, only used to remove the skillet AFTER baking!)
When frying on top of the stove, you may keep the mitt on the handle just be careful not to allow the mitt to touch the pan itself as it may become too hot to handle, catch on fire, etc. Just use common sense!
