Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Lodge Logic LPGI3 Pro 20-by-10-7/16-Inch Cast-Iron Grill/Griddle

Customer Review: Indispensable!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've owned this grill for over a year now, and I want to let you know how it has worked out so far.
It fits over two burners, so it's great for cooking several items at once. It heats evenly but tends to overheat a little with the burner at the highest setting. (DUH!). Even then, I have not experience damage to my stove-top.
I love the way it "releases" everything it cooks. I have cooked the best Japanese style grilled beef/potatoes, South American arepas and cachapas, and everything in between. You name it, it can do it!. Even after I grill fish, or anything which makes a mess, all you do is pour some water on it while it's hot, and wipe it down with a terry cloth. No soap is needed. Then I cover the surface with a light oil rub and it's ready for storing. In fact, mine sits on the stove top for the most part, and it blends nicely with my kitchen. I recommend that for older folks having difficulty lifting it. You practically never have to move it, if you don't want to.
I live in a condominium and chose not to buy a patio grill. I don't need it with this grill.
I bought another for my sister!!

Customer Review: Seasoning Required
Summary: 5 Stars

I did a lot of research before buying this. I learned that you should only use liquid detergent with no scents, esp those that are citrus based. A basic dish detergent like Palmolive regular works well along with a regular dish brush. I also oil the pan lightly after every washing and occasionally leave in the oven for the next time I have to preheat it for any other reason, this helps the oil bake in a really gives the pan a nice shine. Doing this avoids any rust whatsoever. I store this on a rack with other cast iron pans so that none of them nestle inside each other. Yes this seems like a lot of work but it is well worth the effort. The first time I used it my sunny side up eggs stuck to the pan, but after that, with oiling it with any light cooking oil, I never had another problem and it cooks beautifully, esp sunny side up eggs. Make sure to use a metal spatula as the plastic ones don't work as well. This pan gets really hot and stays hot long after removed from the flame. I now own 3 different size skillets in Lodge Cast Iron and use them more than any other pan in my collection. Next, going for the dutch oven.

Customer Review: Best griddle out there!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this griddle for close to three years now and we use it all the time. We absolutely love Lodge products. We are cast iron cooks, no doubt! This griddle is used multiple times per week. We use this grill/griddle for veggie kabobs, steaks, hamburgers, fish, bacon, eggs - you name it, we cook it on this grill.

We live in a condo with very little outdoor space, so this grill really comes in handy.

Yes, it's heavy - it's cast iron. Cleaning is quite simple (I have an extremely tiny kitchen, and I can manage this in a normal sink) - Use extremely hot water (never soap) and a steel sponge - it may take some scrubbing - especially in the grill divets, but it cleans beautifully.

To re-season cast iron, rub some veg oil all over it, place on rack in the oven at 400 degrees - place a pan on the rack beneathe it to catch any oil drippings, and bake the cast iron for a few hours until it gets a beautiful shiny black coating. I re-season all of my cast iron probably more than necessary, but it helps retain it's non-stick capabilities.

Customer Review: Just about perfect!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Bought this about a month ago, with the idea that I could use it in place of my indoors cook top grill. It worked beautifully, except that it was about 2mm too small (my fault), but it was still OK.

** I've never used a pre-seasoned griddle before, and found the non-stick qualities to be very good.
** It gets very hot very fast. It's also heavy/awkward, so be prepared with some good oven mitts in case you want to move it off the fire, etc.
** Regarding weight of this item: Store this where it's easy to reach/lift. I do double duty by putting it (lightly oiled) in the oven at 250. After about 15 min or so, I turn off the oven and just leave the grill in there. It's now seasoned and stored all at once. REMEMBER TO TAKE IT OUT BEFORE USING THE OVEN!!! I've forgotten exactly once...
** The use of a weight to keep items such as bacon flat is nice. I use a small cast-iron fry pan, although there are specialty weights for sale, too.

Now, after a month of ownership the griddle is standing up to all advertising claims. Strong work!

Customer Review: Many pluses......
Summary: 4 Stars

I couldn't wait to get my reversible grill/griddle! I'd been coveting the Le Creuset version for some time and thought......why should I pay five times as much for basically the same item just b/c it has the 'fluff' of a colored enamel edge? I'm glad I resisted and bought the Lodge Logic. It does pancakes, paninis, and French toast like a dream. I am doing the breakfast thing more often w/ turkey sausage links at one end and eggs on the other. The healthy benefits of grilling chicken, fish and pork tenderloins are a bonus and make it a worthy purchase.

One problem, however, is the cleaning of the grill side of the appliance. It is a bear to do this and maybe ours wasn't 'seasoned' properly but it is a real chore to scrape off baked on remains. I have read all the advice from the pros about seasoning and am about to try doing this again but the heavy grill/griddle is a cleaning nightmare, I'm loathe to report.

I am not giving up on it, though....love the uniform way it cooks and I like the idea of some extra iron in the cooked food, too.
