Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Lodge Logic L9OG3 Pre-Seasoned 10-1/2-Inch Round GriddleCustomer Review: Great Tortilla skillet! Summary: 5 Stars
I like the shape and the bottom is more flat than many other iron skillets I have seen. I had one before that which had some kind of raised ringed ridge on the bottom and was not going to work on my flat topped ceramic stove.
I know some people will balk at the idea of using it on a ceramic top stove, but I like it for that very reason - it's flat bottomed. If you are careful about not putting it on too much of a high heat from the ceramic stove and don't shove the skillet back and forth on top of it or bang it down hard (which will scratch the surface or break the glass perhaps) then it performs just fine.
I have a GE black top ceramic stove and it works great for me. I think people may use too much of a high heat for iron skillets, and it's not necessary seeing as it retains heat very well.
Customer Review: Cast Iron is the way to go Summary: 5 Stars
This is a no frills Cast Iron Griddle. This preseasoned pan is nearly as non stick as a nonstick teflon coated pan. It is nice and heavy so it heats up to high temperatures evenly and is great for searing steaks. It is small enough to use on a regular sized stove top without getting in the way of other pans, but big enough to make large pancakes on. It is real easy to clean, we usually just scrub it out with a steel sponge, but if something is burned in it you can boil it loose. After cleaning we lightly coat it w/ oil while it is still warm and then the pan does not need much if any oil when you cook. This pan is really tough and will probably last forever, no coating to get damaged.
And maybe it is just me, but I think my food tastes better than from a steel or non stick pans we have had in the past.
Customer Review: Finally, a Griddle that Doesn't Warp! Summary: 5 Stars
Lately the quickest way for a piece of cookware to get the boot at my house is to warp with heat. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, right? I thought I had a good griddle, but that was before this Lodge cast iron griddle joined the family. Oh my...now THIS is a seriously well-behaved griddle. It is the perfect size and works beautifully with my glass cooktop. No warping...happy, happy cook. Don't be afraid of cast iron with a glass cooktop...just be careful and do not slide the griddle or try any fancy gourmet moves. I cannot rave enough about how much I love this griddle. When I think of the years wasted with a "good" griddle that wouldn't sit flat on my cooktop, I only wish I'd have found this Lodge griddle much, much sooner. I hope to never need another griddle in my lifetime.
Customer Review: Good but not perfect Summary: 4 Stars
Crepes have been a weekend tradition at my house for years, so I have made hundreds or thousands of crepes in my Calphalon nonstick crepe pans. I have been trying to get away from using teflon as much as possible, and finally bought this griddle when one of my crepe pans wore out.
The first time I used it, I was a little disappointed because it did not cook as evenly as my nonstick pan (I cook with two pans side-by-side). After a little more use, I figured out that if I turn up the burner a little higher (and get a wider flame as a result) that the pan heats more evenly and I can cook the crepes faster as well.
I'm still a little disappointed by the short handle which heats up very quickly--you'll need a good potholder or silicone handle cover in order to handle the pan at all.
Customer Review: Great Pan - No Cleanup Summary: 5 Stars
Many, many years ago I used to have a cast iron pan I'd seasoned myself. It took years of special care: applying oils, wiping down, no soap, etc. Two reasons I bought this: I needed a pan to cook tortillas and I wanted a pan that was well-made, easy to care for, was up to daily use and wouldn't warp. I decided on a cast iron pan and I have no regrets about buying this. A little bit of butter and it was ready to go. The tortillas cook beautifully and taste great. Cleaning the pan is a breeze -rinse with hot water and dry with a paper towel. Its perfectly seasoned, cooks well, heats evenly, looks great and made me wonder why I stopped using my other cast iron pan. You want good tortillas, you can't go wrong with this. Oh, and I use it for eggs to put in a burrito (or not) and love it for them also.
