Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Lodge Logic L9OG3 Pre-Seasoned 10-1/2-Inch Round GriddleCustomer Review: Awesome skillet for pancakes! Summary: 5 Stars
I own a great All-Clad LTD Nonstick Grande Griddle that fits on my cook-top just fine, but unless I'm cooking for more than just a couple of people I don't feel like lugging it out. That's where my Lodge Logic 10 1/2" griddle comes into play. At a fraction of the price, the Lodge Logic griddle holds in the heat like there's no tomorrow so you can turn out pancake after pancake without waiting for the pan to heat up in between. My kids love my cakes and clean up is a breeze with the Lodge Cast Iron Scrubber Brush I bought as well. I'm looking forward to cooking omelettes like other people have mentioned in their reviews. I haven't had any problems with burning myself as others have complained about since I also bought the Lodge Max Temp Handle Mitt, Black and that works fine as well.
Customer Review: Fantastically versitile value Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using cast iron cookware for 25 years. Lodge brand has been a favorite for the past 7-8 years because it represents excellent value, is still made right here in America in TN, and because the quality is generally really good.
When I bought this skillet, I already had several cast iron skillets, and frankly was a little hesitant that it offered anything that I didn't already have in the form of higher rimmed skillets. Man, was I wrong. This flat skillet quickly became a favorite. As others have mentioned, getting a spatula under an omlet in this pan is very easy. This pan excels at eggs, pancakes, sandwiches, fajitas, sausage and just generally anything where having a very minor rim is an advantage not a disadvantage.
I really like this skillet and can hardly believe that American made good cast iron cookware is available at this price. This inexpensive pan will easily outlast most of the slick coated aluminum pans that cost more, don't heat as evenly, and don't have the heat retention of cast iron.
Customer Review: Good Logic Summary: 5 Stars
I forgot how wonderful the cast iron cookwear works, especially when it's seasoned. It works just as well as the "Non-stick" coated pans that only last a short time and leave you no room for any mistakes; such as over heating, using the first available utensil; better not be metal and who knows for sure the health hazards. It does not matter either if you pay $10 or $100 for a "Non-Stick", their all the same, no matter what the scientific jargon is. The way they clad the bottoms and rivet the handles, you would think they are built to last forever. When the coating starts lifting off the pans that I have hundreds of dollars invested in, I take a air buffer with a fine 3-M pad and buff ALL the coating off and polish it. Now you have a usable pan, instead of tossing it. Back to the cast iron. Lodge Logic; good product, will last a life time, but the lids are too pricey. I would purchase more if they priced the lids to come with the pot or pan. If you have arthritis, cast iron mat not be a wise choice. A 10-1/2" skillet with lid weighs considerably.
Customer Review: Pre-Seasoned? Not good enough for pancakes! Summary: 1 Stars
I'm familiar with cooking and caring for cast iron pans.
I believed the "Seasoned. Ready to Use .." tag which was attached to this pan, but on my second try at cooking pancakes the pan was left with a two quarter-sized spots where the seasoning had disappeared. Corrosive pancake batter? (It was from a box).
No big deal but you might do better to season it before use.
It is a good size.
Update 1/21/2011. I've been trying to season this nice size pan since I bought it in 2008 but I have not been successful. Maybe 20 times. Tomorrow it goes into the garbage can. I have other, older cast iron pans which work great and season successfully, but I think the composition of this pan is somehow wrong. Over and over I've tried to season this pan with Crisco, butter, bacon fat, olive oil, peanut oil and others at 325, 350, 375, 500 F for 1.5+ hours but the end result is that the seasoning does not stick. Bubbles form which easily break up and leave bare metal spots. Buyer beware.
Customer Review: A surprisingly easy departure from teflon coating Summary: 5 Stars
It has been very easy to adapt to the use and care of this griddle. There are things one needs to keep in mind when cleaning and treating it, but by the same token there are rules one has to follow in the use and care of teflon coated pans. It's no more difficult.
My wife and I have been using very fancy and pricey teflon coated pots and pans for many years. The life of even the most expensive ones is disappointingly short. This solves that problem. On top of not having to worry about the breakdown of a surface material, the tricks to having food not stick to the pan are not that hard to get. I've not had food stick any worse to this pan than I had sticking to our best teflon coated ones.
Also, the even heating is a joy.
One possible drawback might be the weight. Personally I don't find it to be a bad thing. You get accustomed to dealing with what you have. There are advantages to having a pan that stays put when you're moving food on it.
Overall I'm very happy with this pan!
