Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Lodge Logic L8SK3 10-1/4-Inch Pre-Seasoned SkilletCustomer Review: Fabulous with one improvement Summary: 5 Stars
No more teflon for me! This is the best skillet on the planet, one that my kids will surely be fighting over after I am gone! We made one improvement: We put 80 grit sandpaper on our orbital sander and sanded the bottom of the skillet until we couldn't see any more 'black'. then we upped it to 110 grit, then to 200 grit and finally to 220. It took a while, but my pan now has a glass like finish on the bottom that will truly 'season' in no time at all. Only a week old, it cooks stick free, cleans up in a breeze, and lightly oiled, it is ready for my next use. I use my new skillets exclusively now and am considering purchasing a Dutch Oven next. (The Pre-seasoned finish was okay, but our new finish looks and performs like it took years to achieve!)
Customer Review: Buy this right now. Don't wait. Summary: 5 Stars
If you're willing to put in the extra TLC required by cast iron, do not hesitate and buy this right now. You will never be let down by it. Always consistent results that taste amazing. I've been through several other brands of skillets and it's nice to know that this is the last one I'll ever need to buy. Put it on a campfire, put it in the oven. Do whatever you want with it. Take care of it and it will take care of you. I also have the 5qt dutch oven which works out great because the lid will also fit this 10 1/4 inch skillet. Size wise it's perfect for my wife and I althought you might want to get a larger one if you have a bigger family. Or just buy several sized and always have everything covered. Buy it now. You'll never regret it.
Customer Review: Not your grandmother's pan Summary: 3 Stars
I've had great luck with a lodge dutch over and stove top grill/griddle. In a recent move I somehow managed to misplace my grandmothers old cast iron pan. I was a bit sad about not have that pan anymore but didn't think of it as anything more than a lost memory.
How wrong I was. By comparison this thing is junk. It is significantly thinner and has a very short handle. This is not to say it's a bad pan - it's just not up to the old stuff. I'm not going to return it, in fact I'll use it without complaint. I am, however, going to keep my eye open for something more substantial.
In retrospect I should have ordered a 12" pan. I'm not sure why but 10" of cast iron just looks small.
Customer Review: An iron fry pan straight out of Bedrock Summary: 1 Stars
This product is poorly manufactured. The cooking surface has a "rough" texture which causes food to stick unnecessarily, whereas it should have been ground smooth before leaving the factory. The handle had sharp edges which I needed to file down before using the pan. The "loop" handle was a good idea, otherwise most folks would likely strain their wrists trying to lift this pan off the stove with one hand. The construction is heavier and "clunkier" than it needs to be to perform its job properly. Overall, this product is just plain lousy and cheap. Anyone who says they're satisfied with this item has never used a good quality iron fry pan. Clearly, this product was manufactured for Wilma Flintstone.
Customer Review: Excellent Buy Summary: 5 Stars
I bought a skillet for myself and one for my daughter. While the skillet comes "preseasoned", it does require additional seasoning to get that slick finish that only comes with time and use. I've used mine 4 times since purchasing it, and it does an excellent job. I've used it for sauteed fish and chicken as well as cornbread, got rave reviews on all dishes. It cooks evenly, as cast iron should. I am extremely satisfied and would recommend this as purchase for any cook who wants to do true home cooking. Just remember that this is a cast iron skillet and it must be cared for. No washing in the dish washer and it must be washed and dried thoroughly to prevent rusting.
