Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Lodge Logic L8SGP3 Pre-Seasoned Square Grill Pan

Customer Review: Awesome grill pan!
Summary: 4 Stars

I received my pan last week, and have made grilled chicken fajitas with a grilled corn relish as well as making grilled salmon burgers just now. Getting the timing of the chicken was pretty tricky, but the flavor was great. I wasn't at all sure if I could grill the corn on the cob, but it went off without a hitch. Today's salmon burgers was sort of an ultimate test since they're made with chopped salmon, panko crumbs, chives, etc. so I was leery of flipping them over without them falling apart. I used my large and very thin flipper, and it worked beautifully. My only complaint thus far was in the cleaning process after the chicken fajitas since they had a garlic and lime juice marinade, and the stuff pretty much melded to the pan. Afterwords, I started thinking that I don't think you're supposed to cook acidic foods in cast iron, so maybe that was part of my problem. Still, by far one of the most treasured skillets in my kitchen.

Ordered this a little bit ago and just got around to using it, and all i can say is that it works great!
I was even talking a few friends of mine recently. Mike usually does all the cooking for my other friend Rick, to say they enjoyed using this product together is an understatement. Mike liked the fact that he could bring the essence of grilling inside on the stove top, and Rick liked the fact that he can cook with Mike, giving them a feeling of togetherness in preparing for their next meal.
Whether it was for day time grilling or night time grilling, they have made the majority of their chicken and/or their famous sausage sandwhiches.

I will say it is a little heavy, but Rick and Mike double team the cooking efforts, so that is not an issue. Also, very easy to clean of food staining! Just don't leave water in it or it will rust.

I agree with Mike and Rick...must have grilling tool!

Customer Review: Nice Basic Grill Pan
Summary: 4 Stars

I've grilled turkey burgers, hamburgers, chicken breast, fish filets and veggies with this thing and I've been pretty much universally impressed. The more delicate fish varieties will stick but then that's true with a real grill as well. Firm fish like salmon, swordfish, tuna, etc. are fine. It holds heat tremendously well and gives delicious results for indoor grilling. (If only it came with applewood smoke flavor.)

It's a real cooks tool and it takes a litte technique to use it effectively. You have to use the proper temperature, follow the cleaning instructions (no soap), and maintain the "seasoning". If you're looking for non-stick, easy clean up or dishwasher safe, it's not for you. Also, it's cast iron, so it will give your forearms a workout.

But if you want to grill indoors I don't think you can beat old fashioned cast iron and you certainly can't beat the price.

Customer Review: Friends don't let friends buy George Foreman grills
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this pan. I think I've even told the pan that I love it. I live in an apartment with no balcony, so an outdoor grill is not an option for me. After owning this pan for four months now, I don't even want to own an outdoor grill. I have made some of the best steaks and burgers that I've ever tasted in this pan.

I don't entertain much, but this pan is the right size for four burgers. When I do have had friends over, I love to cook "humpty dumpty" burgers: just cheese and a fried egg. I use my flat Lodge skillet for the eggs (sometimes bacon too!). Even those who just want a simple cheeseburger can't believe you can make such an awesome burger indoors. They're stunned every time.

I can't believe this pan is only $20. I use it all the time and I feel like it will last forever. This is easily the best kitchen product I have ever purchased.

Customer Review: Does it right
Summary: 5 Stars

We ordered this grill from Amazon about a month ago. It arrived within a week in perfect condition. AS ALWAYS I washed the pan, dried it and continued to season it. I thought i would only use it on rare occasions if I couldn't grill outside. As it turns out, I use it often. The beauty of cast iron is it's heat retention, in a light weight pan as soon as you add food the temperature drops dramatically.. not so with a heavy cast iron pan. Burgers, steaks, chicken and vegetables have perfect grill marks. We also use the Lodge 5 qt. Dutch Oven ( from Amazon )for frying. Since maintaining oil temperature is critical so fried foods do not get soaked with grease, the heavy cast holds the oil temperature well. Both excellent products AND made in U.S.A.
