Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Lodge Logic L5SK3 Pre-Seasoned Cast-Iron 8-Inch Skillet

Customer Review: Great Skillet But Has A Slight Drawback
Summary: 4 Stars

I really like this 8" skillet. It's perfect to cook a burger or other small food items. However, I was disappointed that my Lodge (rectangular) bacon press doesn't fit. No big deal though, since the press will fit very well in the 10.5" Lodge skillet that I have on order. Since I fondly remember the old days when I went to the lunch counter at my local Woolworth's store and got the (IMHO) best pressed grilled cheese and bacon sandwich in the world, the bacon press is a 'must have' for me. I got turned on to cast iron cooking after watching an episode on the Food Network that featured the Lodge Company. It didn't take long for me to get really 'gung ho' about cast iron cooking that I went so far to buy an induction burner. For the 100 bucks that I paid for it, it was a good investment since I have a glass top stove. While if you're very careful by lifting the skillet (no matter what size) and not dragging it on the surface or taking the chance of dropping it, it's OK to use cast iron. But being the cautious person I normally am, I like having the burner rather than risking costly repairs or worse - replacing the stove.

Customer Review: be carfull the size is the outside diamiter
Summary: 5 Stars

I have used lodge cast iron for years and was used to lodges numbering for instance an sk10 would have 10 inches of usable cooking diamiter on the inside but actualy be 12 inches outside diamiter so wen i saw 8 inch lodge skillette i assumed it was an sk8 not the case it is an sk5 . I was giving it away as a wedding gift so it is not a big deal but i have no use for such a small skillette my self

I have a sk8 sk10 sk12 sc10 sc12 7qt duch oven 7qt camp duch oven and griddle there is not much i can't cook in these and i use one or more of them every day.

Lodge quality is the best you will find and they are the only maker of cast iron cookware in the USA Don't be fooled by the other imposters.

Lodge made by americans in america for americans

cook ware thats made to last life times if you take good care of it it'll take good care of you , and you'll be passin them along for gerneations.

Customer Review: Cast Iron cooking is the BEST!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my first time using cast iron and I LOVE IT!!! I did my homework and found Lodge to be a very good brand. It's made in the USA, relatively inexpensive, easy to use and easy to care for. These pans are already pre-seasoned so you only need to rub a bit of shortning on the surface after each use. I use the 8" pan for bacon, eggs and small items and the 10" griddle makes great pizza and pancakes. The 12" pan is used for bigger one pan family meals. Food cooked in cast iron just tastes so much better than food cooked in anything else. Cast iron has a non stick surface, (when seasoned properly) heats evenly and cast iron doesn't wear out with age.. it gets better. It goes from stove top to oven and you can use a variety of cooking methods from baking, broiling, frying to braising, roasting and grilling. The recipes are endless.. it's fun to cook in...go for it.. you won't regret it!

Customer Review: Pretty much perfect
Summary: 5 Stars

As far as cast iron goes, this is about as perfect as can be. Although I always diligently season my cast iron pans after nearly every use, and could get away with a pan that wasn't pre-seasoned, I still think buying a pre-seasoned pan makes a lot of sense because you can get started cooking right out of the box. It also gives you a head start on your own regular seasonings--it takes care of those difficult first 3 seasonings for you.

On my first use of this pan, I pre-heated the pan for 3-4 minutes, used a little canola spray (not much) and fried an egg. It slid around just as well as a nonstick pan! Amazing.

Of course, what can I say about cast iron that hasn't been said before? It's just brilliant, and I use it whenever I cook meat these days--it just always tastes better. Lodge is as reliable and as inexpensive as I could ask for.

Customer Review: Lodge 8 inch cast iron skillet
Summary: 3 Stars

Received this skillet and discovered it had scratches in the bottom of it which marred the pre-seasoning. It also had a large scrape on the side inside which was rusted so there was no preseasoning on it. The handle is so short that it is always overheating.

I own 2 other Farberware larger pre-seasoned cast iron skillets and they arrived in perfect condition. They also have longer handles which are more ergonomically designed so they are easier to use and never overheat.

I love cast iron since it is so durable but it would have been too expensive to ship the Lodge skillet back for a replacement so I kept it the way it was. I will have to do the seasoning myself on it.

I personally think that Farberware makes a better, more user friendly product and would recommend their cast iron products over Lodge.
